{"id":342901,"date":"2025-07-16T15:31:04","date_gmt":"2025-07-16T10:01:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/?p=342901"},"modified":"2025-07-16T15:31:04","modified_gmt":"2025-07-16T10:01:04","slug":"sigandur-bridge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/sigandur-bridge\/","title":{"rendered":"Sigandur Bridge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>News:<\/strong> Recently, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways has inaugurated the cable-stayed bridge built over the Sharavati river backwaters in Sagar taluk of Shivamogga district, Karnataka.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>About Sigandur Bridge<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The Sigandur Bridge is <\/strong>located in <strong>Shivamogga district, Karnataka.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is <strong>India&#8217;s second longest inland cable-stayed bridge<\/strong>, spanning a total length of <strong>2.25 kilometres<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>This is the <strong>first extradosed balanced cantilever bridge<\/strong> in Karnataka.<\/li>\n<li>The bridge is expected to give a <strong>major boost to tourism<\/strong>, especially by improving connectivity to the <strong>temple town of Sigandur<\/strong>, a popular pilgrimage site.<\/li>\n<li>It will also <strong>enhance the local economy<\/strong> by providing faster, more reliable transportation and better road access to the <strong>Malnad region<\/strong>, supporting both livelihood and trade.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>About Sharavathi river<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Location<\/strong>: It flows through the western part of <strong>Karnataka<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Unique Flow<\/strong>: It is one of the <strong>few westward-flowing rivers<\/strong> in India, draining into the <strong>Arabian Sea<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Origin<\/strong>: Emerges in the <strong>Western Ghats<\/strong>, a UNESCO World Heritage site rich in biodiversity.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Course<\/strong>: It travels in a <strong>northwesterly direction and e<\/strong>mpties into the Arabian Sea at <strong>Honavar<\/strong> in <strong>Uttara Kannada District<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The river forms the famous <strong>Jog Falls<\/strong>, one of India&#8217;s highest waterfalls.<\/li>\n<li>The river\u2019s course includes <strong>rocky outcrops<\/strong>, <strong>fertile plains<\/strong>, and <strong>deep gorges<\/strong>, making it geologically diverse.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Major Tributaries<\/strong>: <strong>Nandihole<\/strong>, <strong>Haridravathi<\/strong>, <strong>Mavinahole<\/strong>, <strong>Hilkunji<\/strong>, <strong>Yennehole<\/strong>, <strong>Hurlihole<\/strong>, and <strong>Nagodihole<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: Recently, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways has inaugurated the cable-stayed bridge built over the Sharavati river backwaters in Sagar taluk of Shivamogga district, Karnataka.
