ET<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li>The Consumer Price Index for Agricultural Labourers (CPI-AL) and Consumer Price Index for Rural Labourers (CPI-RL) are vital economic indicators <strong>published monthly<\/strong> by <strong>the Labour Bureau, Ministry of Labour &amp; Employment. <\/strong><\/li>\n<li>They reflect the <strong>movement in the retail prices of goods and services<\/strong> consumed by <strong>rural and agricultural labor households<\/strong> in India.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The New Series<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>The newly constructed <strong>CPI \u2013 AL &amp; RL series (Base: 2019=100)<\/strong> replaces the <strong>CPI \u2013 AL\/RL (Base: 1986-87=100) series.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The move is <strong>aimed<\/strong> at improving <strong>accuracy and reflecting contemporary consumption patterns<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Significance:<\/strong> The revised series has significantly <strong>enhanced the scope and coverage and incorporated many methodological changes<\/strong> in order to make the indices more robust.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Changes:<\/strong> These are &#8211;\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>weighting diagrams<\/strong> (share of expenditure to total expenditure) have been <strong>revised<\/strong> due to changes in consumption patterns;<\/li>\n<li>Use of the <strong>Geometric Mean (GM)<\/strong> in place of the <strong>Arithmetic Mean (AM),<\/strong> as GM moderates the volatility in prices;<\/li>\n<li>Use of the latest <strong>classification of individual consumption<\/strong> according to purpose, in line with the <strong>Classification of Individual Consumption by Purpose (COICOP)-2018; <\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Calculation of <strong>prices of PDS items<\/strong> using the admissibility concept instead of availability as in the old series;<\/li>\n<li>The revised series covers <strong>34 States\/UTs as against 20 States<\/strong> in the old series;<\/li>\n<li>Prices are collected from <strong>787 sample villages as against 600<\/strong> villages in the old series;<\/li>\n<li>Around <strong>150\u2013200 items are covered as against ~65\u2013106 items<\/strong> in the old series.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>About Consumer Price Index (CPI)<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is an index measuring <strong>retail inflation in the economy<\/strong> by collecting the <strong>change in prices of most common goods and services used by consumers<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It is calculated for a <strong>fixed list of items<\/strong> including food, housing, apparel, transportation, electronics, medical care, education etc.<\/li>\n<li>In <strong>2014<\/strong>, RBI has adopted CPI as the key measure for <strong>determining the inflation<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Different types of Consumer Price Index(CPI)<\/strong><\/p>\n<table style=\"height: 351px;
