L. Carlleyle.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Lion capital:<\/strong> The pillar with <strong>lion capital<\/strong> is inscribed with the <strong>Major Pillar Edicts<\/strong> of Ashoka.\n<ul>\n<li>Its <strong>abacus<\/strong> is adorned with <strong>clockwise-flying geese (hamsa),<\/strong> symbolizing spiritual <strong>liberation<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Bull capital:<\/strong> The Rampurva <strong>bull capital<\/strong> is noted as <strong>one of the seven remaining animal capitals <\/strong>from the Pillars of Ashoka.\n<ul>\n<li>It is composed of a <strong>lotiform base<\/strong>, with an <strong>abacus decorated<\/strong> with <strong>floral designs<\/strong>, and the realistic depiction of a <strong>zebu bull<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>abacus<\/strong> in particular displays a <strong>strong influence of Greek art:<\/strong> it is composed of honeysuckles alternated with stylized <strong>palmettes and small rosettes<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>lion capital<\/strong> is now in the <strong>Indian Museum in Kolkata<\/strong>, while the <strong>bull capital<\/strong> is located at the center of the <strong>porch of the Rashtrapati Bhavan<\/strong>, the Indian Presidential Palace.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: The Ashoka pillars of Rampurva and Lauriya Nandangarh in Bihar are on UNESCO&#8217;s Tentative List under the &#8216;Serial Nomination for Ashokan Edict Sites along the Mauryan Routes&#8217;.
