{"id":344356,"date":"2025-08-12T16:17:24","date_gmt":"2025-08-12T10:47:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/?p=344356"},"modified":"2025-08-12T16:17:24","modified_gmt":"2025-08-12T10:47:24","slug":"indias-first-animal-stem-cell-biobank","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/indias-first-animal-stem-cell-biobank\/","title":{"rendered":"India&#8217;s First Animal Stem Cell Biobank"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>News:<\/strong> Union Minister of State for Science &amp; Technology has inaugurated the nation\u2019s first \u2018Animal Stem Cell Biobank\u2019.<\/p>\n<h2>About India&#8217;s First Animal Stem Cell Biobank<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_344363\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-344363\" style=\"width: 221px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-344363\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Source-AIR-News.jpg?resize=221%2C392&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"221\" height=\"392\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Source-AIR-News.jpg?resize=169%2C300&amp;ssl=1 169w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Source-AIR-News.jpg?w=252&amp;ssl=1 252w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 221px) 100vw, 221px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-344363\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source &#8211; AIR News<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a <strong>state-of-the-art facility<\/strong> that will <strong>store and preserve<\/strong> high-quality <strong>stem cells from various animal species.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Setup at:<\/strong> The facility is set-up at the <strong>National Institute of Animal Biotechnology (NIAB) at, Hyderabad.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>The NIAB is a premier institute under the <strong>Department of Biotechnology\u2019s Biotechnology Research Innovation Council (BRIC).<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Collaboration:<\/strong> The Biobank is developed in <strong>partnership with HiMedia Laboratories<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Significance<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>The biobank would provide <strong>quality-controlled animal stem cells<\/strong> and indigenous, cost-effective <strong>cell culture media<\/strong> to veterinary clinics, research institutions, hospitals, and industry.<\/li>\n<li>This first-of-its-kind resource would <strong>accelerate advances in veterinary medicine<\/strong>, <strong>regenerative therapies,<\/strong> and <strong>animal cell-based smart protein production. <\/strong>This will reduce dependence on imports and fostering the country\u2019s biomanufacturing capacity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Note:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The Ministry also launched <strong>five new veterinary diagnostic tools<\/strong> aimed at <strong>transforming animal health<\/strong> management under <strong>the \u2018One Health\u2019 approach<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>These tools are \u2013\n<ul>\n<li><strong>BruDIVA:<\/strong> A diagnostic test that distinguishes between animals infected with brucellosis and those vaccinated to track and control the disease more effectively.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Udder Care:<\/strong> An affordable, field-friendly kit for early detection of mastitis, a common udder infection in dairy cattle which reduces milk production and quality.<\/li>\n<li><strong>CureCheck:<\/strong> A portable device for rapid antibiotic sensitivity testing in livestock infections such as mastitis providing results in under two hours.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Toxo Antibody Rapid Test:<\/strong> A simple, on-the-spot test for detecting toxoplasmosis, a parasitic disease affecting both humans and animals causing abortions and stillbirths in livestock.<\/li>\n<li><strong>RapiChex JE NS1 Test:<\/strong> A rapid, point-of-care diagnostic kit for Japanese Encephalitis, a mosquito-borne viral disease affecting humans and animals.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: Union Minister of State for Science &amp; Technology has inaugurated the nation\u2019s first \u2018Animal Stem Cell Biobank\u2019.
