Rao committee<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Nodal Ministry:<\/strong> It operates under the <strong>Ministry of Education<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Objectives and mandates:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Review the progress of social science research and give advice to its users;<\/li>\n<li>Sponsor social science research programmes and projects<\/li>\n<li>Administer grants to institutions and individuals for research in social sciences<\/li>\n<li>Institute and administer scholarships and fellowships for research in social sciences<\/li>\n<li>Indicate areas in which social science research is to be promoted<\/li>\n<li>Give financial support to institutions, associations, and journals engaged in social science research<\/li>\n<li>Arrange for technical training in research methodology<\/li>\n<li>Provide guidance for research<\/li>\n<li>Co-ordinate research activities and encourage progrmmes for interdisciplinary research<\/li>\n<li>Develop and support centers for documentation services and supply of data;<\/li>\n<li>Organize, sponsor, and finance seminars, workshops and study groups<\/li>\n<li>Undertake publication and assist publication of journals and books in social sciences<\/li>\n<li>Advise the Government of India on all matters pertaining to social science research<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Organisational structure<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Council:<\/strong> The ICSSR\u2019s <strong>highest decision-making<\/strong> body is known as the <strong>Council<\/strong>.\n<ul>\n<li>It has <strong>26 members<\/strong>, which includes the <strong>ICSSR Chairman<\/strong> and the <strong>Member-Secretary<\/strong>, 17 Social Scientists (Non-Ex-Officio members), one Co-opted member and six Ex-officio members representing the Government of India.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>Member Secretary<\/strong> is the <strong>Chief Executive Officer<\/strong> and <strong>heads the ICSSR Secretariat<\/strong>.\n<ul>\n<li>The<strong> ICSSR Secretariat<\/strong> consisting of <strong>Directors, Deputy Directors, Assistant Directors and other officials.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The Council has <strong>three standing committees<\/strong>, namely the Research Committee (RC), Research Institutes Committee (RIC) and Planning and Administration Committee (PAC).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>NASSDOC:<\/strong> <strong>Documentation center<\/strong> of ICSSR &#8211; <strong>National Social Science Documentation Centre (NASSDOC) &#8211;<\/strong> provides <strong>library and information support services<\/strong> to researchers in social sciences.\n<ul>\n<li>ICSSR has developed <strong>ICSSR Data Service<\/strong> to serve as a national data service for promoting powerful research environment through sharing and reuse of data among social science community in India.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: The Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) has sent a showcause notice to the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies (CSDS), asking it to explain why its grants-in-aid should not be withdrawn.
