{"id":34516,"date":"2018-10-31T11:38:55","date_gmt":"2018-10-31T06:08:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=34516"},"modified":"2018-10-31T11:38:55","modified_gmt":"2018-10-31T06:08:55","slug":"govt-planning-liberal-norms-for-electric-vehicle-charging-stations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/govt-planning-liberal-norms-for-electric-vehicle-charging-stations\/","title":{"rendered":"Govt planning liberal norms for electric vehicle charging stations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.livemint.com\/Politics\/Pii8GbSglucqIvIQqgG1SI\/Govt-planning-liberal-norms-for-electric-vehicle-charging-st.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Govt planning liberal norms for electric vehicle charging stations<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Context<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Government is set to put in place liberal rules for charging stations to power electric vehicles, seeking to facilitate rapid expansion of the infrastructure needed to support its ambition of an all-electric fleet on Indian roads by 2030.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Liberal proposal<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The norms under preparation will not require government and private institutions that set up charging stations for captive use to possess an electricity retailing licence.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Only entities that get into the business of charging stations and retail electricity to third-party vehicles will require such a licence,<\/span><\/li>\n<li>The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is working on these norms.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Impact <\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To accelerate the expansion of the use of electric vehicles, which could bring economies of scale and could push prices down.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>About the scheme<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The government is now procuring 10,000 electric vehicles, the competitive bids for which resulted in a 25% reduction in the price of the contracted vehicles from their prevailing market price.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), which is procuring these vehicles, follows a business model of making upfront investments in energy-efficient equipment, which it recovers from customers over a period from the savings they make in energy consumption.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the case of government vehicles (which EESL is procuring), charging stations are used for captive consumption of electricity. There is no sale of electricity. Hence it is a good idea not to require such infrastructure to have a power distribution licence. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India has set a target of making a complete shift to electric mobility by 2030. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>What is electric vehicle?<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The electric car (also known as electric vehicle or EV) uses energy stored in its rechargeable batteries, which are recharged by common household electricity.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An n electric car is powered by an electric motor instead of a gasoline engine<\/span><b><\/b><\/li>\n<li>Unlike a hybrid car\u2014which is fueled by gasoline and uses a battery and motor to improve efficiency\u2014an electric car is powered exclusively by electricity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Advantages of electric vehicle<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>environment<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It will help India to achieve its \u00a0climate change goal of reducing the carbon emissions intensity of its gross domestic product by 33-35% by 2030 from 2005 levels.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reduce noise pollution in the cities<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Economy <\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It will cut India\u2019s oil imports vis-a-vis current account deficit.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Expected to boost electricity demand, helping underutilized thermal power plants as well as the surging number of clean energy projects in the country.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Electric cars are low maintenance. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Disadvantage <\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recharge point are yet to be setup.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Short driving range and speed<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India already faces a power shortage.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Why electric cars are not successful in india?<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lacking infrastructure such as charging point<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">High cost of electric vehicle<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">People mindset and stereotype like electric vehicle do not make noise so it is not good<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Govt planning liberal norms for electric vehicle charging stations Context Government is set to put in place liberal rules for charging stations to power electric vehicles, seeking to facilitate rapid expansion of the infrastructure needed to support its ambition of an all-electric fleet on Indian roads by 2030.
