{"id":34533,"date":"2018-10-31T11:43:01","date_gmt":"2018-10-31T06:13:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=34533"},"modified":"2018-10-31T11:43:01","modified_gmt":"2018-10-31T06:13:01","slug":"nhai-to-get-power-to-speed-up-bharatmala-programe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/nhai-to-get-power-to-speed-up-bharatmala-programe\/","title":{"rendered":"NHAI to get power to speed up Bharatmala programe\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/news\/economy\/infrastructure\/nhai-to-get-power-to-speed-up-bharatmala-programme\/articleshow\/61136911.cms\">NHAI to get power to speed up Bharatmala programe\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Context<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is set to get the power to approve projects with a construction cost of more than Rs 1,000 crore to ensure faster implementation highway project of the Bharatmala programme. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Currently, all highway projects that entail a construction cost of more than Rs 1,000 crore, excluding land, need to be approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA). <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>The proposal<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Under the proposal, only public private partnership (<\/span><b>PPP<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) projects under the build-operate-transfer (BOT) model, where viability gap funding (<\/span><b>VGF<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) is to be provided by the government, will need CCEA clearance. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The NHAI board would be empowered to approve all <\/span><b>engineering procurement and construction and hybrid annuity projects<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>About Bharatmala<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bharatmala envisions <\/span><b>44 economic corridors<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> across the country at a cost of at least Rs 5 lakh crore.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Bharatmala corridors have been <\/span><b>mapped as per traffic density and economic relevance of the cities<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that will be connected with the help of the Bhaskaracharya Institute for Space Applications and Geo-informatics. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The project involves constructing <\/span><b>24,000km of new highways<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The project is aimed at speeding up cargo movement and the development of <\/span><b>multimodal logistics hubs and parks<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on the periphery of major commercial centres. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The project includes construction of feeder routes alongside national highways. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Around 80% of Bharatmala will be based on a government funded, engineering procurement and construction (EPC) model while the rest will be a hybrid-annuity public private partnership.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NHAI to get power to speed up Bharatmala programe\u00a0 Context The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is set to get the power to approve projects with a construction cost of more than Rs 1,000 crore to ensure faster implementation highway project of the Bharatmala programme.
