{"id":34565,"date":"2018-10-31T11:56:03","date_gmt":"2018-10-31T06:26:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=34565"},"modified":"2018-10-31T11:56:03","modified_gmt":"2018-10-31T06:26:03","slug":"with-stealth-ship-india-in-elite-group","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/with-stealth-ship-india-in-elite-group\/","title":{"rendered":"With stealth ship, India in elite group:"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/todays-paper\/tp-national\/with-stealth-ship-india-enters-elite-group\/article19874007.ece\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With stealth ship, India in elite group<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Context<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently defence minister \u00a0Nirmala Sitharaman commissioned<\/span><b> INS Kiltan<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> , the third of the four Project-28 Kamorta class ASW.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With the commissioning of third <\/span><b>kamorta class Anti-submarine Warfare (ASW)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> stealth, country is rapidly marching towards indigenisation <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>About project<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is part of \u2018Make in India\u2019 initiative.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The keel was laid in 2010 under the Project-28 scheme and was built by Garden Reach Ship Builders and Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Indeginisation <\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This ship is unique, as about 81% is built indigenously and is the first built by India that has a superstructure made up of carbon fibre composite material. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This makes it a stealth corvette and makes India one among the few nations that have this technology or this class of ships.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>About INS KILTAN<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">INS Kiltan has been constructed using high grade steel (DMR 249A) produced by the state-owned Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">propelled by four diesel engines to achieve speeds in excess of 25 knots with an endurance of 3450 nautical miles.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The carbon composite material gives it an extra stealth edge and also lowers the top weight and maintenance cost.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The installed propulsion and auxiliary systems provides very low radiated underwater noise feature, required for anti-submarine warfare.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">INS Kiltan is the latest indigenous warship after Shivalik Class, Kolkata Class and sister ships INS Kamorta and INS Kadmatt to have joined the Indian Navy\u2019s arsenal<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With stealth ship, India in elite group: Context Recently defence minister \u00a0Nirmala Sitharaman commissioned INS Kiltan , the third of the four Project-28 Kamorta class ASW.
