Ambedkar<\/strong> in other parts of India.<\/li>\n<li>In 1925, Periyar left the Indian National Congress to establish the Self-Respect Movement, focusing specifically on social equality and human dignity.<\/li>\n<li>The movement <strong>actively opposed the Devdasi system, caste-based discrimination, and the prohibition on widow remarriage.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>In <strong>February 1929<\/strong>, Periyar <strong>organized the first provincial Self-Respect Movement conference in Chengalpattu,<\/strong> which focused significantly on women\u2019s issues and was presided over by W.P.A.
