Mr. Asim Aftikhar Ahmad (Pakistan); Vice-Chairs for 2025: Guyana and the Russian Federation.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Supported by<\/strong> the Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Prepares<\/strong> annual reports, has Guidelines, and announces meetings in the UN Journal.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Objectives<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Ensure compliance with <strong>travel bans, arms embargoes, and asset freezes<\/strong> against Taliban-affiliated actors who threaten peace in Afghanistan.<\/li>\n<li>Oversee implementation of <strong>sanctions<\/strong> and designate individuals and entities meeting listing criteria.<\/li>\n<li>Consider and decide on <strong>exemption<\/strong> requests, delisting, and periodic reviews of listings.<\/li>\n<li>Examine Monitoring Team <strong>reports<\/strong> and report to the Security Council; conduct outreach.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Key feature<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>List-based regime<\/strong> covering about 130 individuals and entities.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Chair exercises procedural control,<\/strong> including agenda-setting, consultations, and recommendations.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Consensus decision-making limits unilateral action<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>No investigative or enforcement powers<\/strong>; relies on state cooperation for implementation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: Taliban foreign minister cancelled a planned India visit after failing to secure a UN Security Council travel-ban waiver.
