{"id":346163,"date":"2025-09-12T16:36:17","date_gmt":"2025-09-12T11:06:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/?p=346163"},"modified":"2025-09-12T16:36:17","modified_gmt":"2025-09-12T11:06:17","slug":"samudra-pradakshina","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/samudra-pradakshina\/","title":{"rendered":"Samudra Pradakshina"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>News<\/strong>: The Raksha Mantri virtually flagged off Samudra Pradakshina, a Tri-service all-women circumnavigation expedition, from the Gateway of India, Mumbai.<\/p>\n<h2>About Samudra Pradakshina<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a <strong>nine-month voyage<\/strong> by <strong>10 women officers<\/strong> aboard the indigenously built Indian Army Sailing <strong>Vessel (IASV) Triveni<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The team will <strong>sail about 26,000 nautical miles on an easterly route<\/strong>, round Capes Leeuwin, Horn and Good Hope, make four international port calls, and return to Mumbai in May 2026.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Aims<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Commemorate <strong>Nari Shakti<\/strong> and the <strong>vision for Viksit Bharat.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Demonstrate <strong>jointness and unity of the three Services<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Showcase Aatmanirbhar Bharat<\/strong> and <strong>India<\/strong><strong>\u2019<\/strong><strong>s global vision through maritime diplomacy<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Objective<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Complete a global circumnavigation in accordance with WSSRC norms<\/strong>\u2014cross all longitudes, undertake <strong>Equator crossings<\/strong>, and cover <strong>over 21,600 nautical miles under sail alone<\/strong>, without canals or powered transit.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Conduct scientific work with the National Institute of Oceanography<\/strong>, including <strong>micro-plastics study<\/strong>, <strong>documentation of ocean life<\/strong>, and <strong>awareness on marine health<\/strong>.<strong>.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Features<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Platform:<\/strong> <strong>IASV Triveni, a 50-foot, indigenously built yacht from Puducherry.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Crew:<\/strong> A 10-member Tri-service team led by Expedition Leader <strong>Lieutenant Colonel Anuja Varudkar<\/strong>; Deputy Expedition Leader <strong>Squadron Leader Shraddha P Raju<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Preparation:<\/strong> Three years of offshore training from Class B vessels to the Class A IASV Triveni (acquired in October 2024), including a Mumbai\u2013Seychelles\u2013Mumbai voyage.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Past Examples<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>F<\/strong><strong>irst solo <\/strong><strong>global (UK) non-stop circumnavigation (1969): <\/strong>Sir Robin Knox-Johnston completed the first solo non-stop circumnavigation in 1969.<\/li>\n<li><strong>F<\/strong><strong>irst solo <\/strong><strong>Indian <\/strong><strong>circumnavigation <\/strong><strong>(2009\u201310)<\/strong>: Captain Dilip Donde completed<\/li>\n<li><strong>First Indian non-stop circumnavigation (2012\u201313)<\/strong>: Commander Abhilash Tomy.<\/li>\n<li>The Indian <strong>Navy<\/strong><strong>\u2019<\/strong><strong>s Navika Sagar Parikrama (2017\u201318)<\/strong> and <strong>Navika Sagar Parikrama-II (2024\u2013<\/strong><strong>25) on INSV Tarini <\/strong>were successful circumnavigation expeditions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: The Raksha Mantri virtually flagged off Samudra Pradakshina, a Tri-service all-women circumnavigation expedition, from the Gateway of India, Mumbai.
