It covers <strong>term, ULIP, endowment, family floaters, and senior-citizen plans<\/strong>, and <strong>reinsurance<\/strong>. <strong>Premiums become 18% cheaper.<\/strong> A family paying \u20b9<strong>50,000<\/strong> earlier paid \u20b9<strong>9,000<\/strong> as GST. Gains depend on pass-through by insurers.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Room charge rules:<\/strong> Hospital rooms below \u20b9<strong>5,000\/day<\/strong> stay exempt. <strong>Non-ICU rooms above <\/strong>\u20b9<strong>5,000\/day<\/strong> continue to attract <strong>5% GST without input tax credit<\/strong> (since July 2022). <strong>ICU\/CCU\/ICCU\/NICU<\/strong> remain fully exempt regardless of tariff.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Treatment stays untaxed:<\/strong> Core services by hospitals, doctors, and paramedics remain GST-exempt. <strong>No change from the 2022 framework.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2><strong>How do reforms affect medicines, devices, and diagnostics?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li><strong> Drug taxes simplified:<\/strong> GST on <strong>most medicines is 5%<\/strong> and l<strong>ife-saving drugs are zero-rated.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Devices and diagnostics at 5%:<\/strong> Most medical devices and diagnostic products shift to a <strong>uniform 5% slab<\/strong>. For example, CT scan machines fall from 18% to 5%, easing hospital capital costs.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Cheaper tests if passed on:<\/strong> Laboratory services remain exempt, but inputs\u2014kits, reagents, equipment\u2014are taxed less. If labs pass savings on, routine tests such as blood tests, X-rays, and MRIs may become cheaper. Pharmacies and small clinics gain competitiveness.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Commercial adjustments:<\/strong> <strong>Manufacturers and distributors<\/strong> will revise pricing and contracts. <strong>Hospitals and labs <\/strong>can negotiate better terms with insurers and corporate clients.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2><strong>How do reforms encourage prevention and healthier choices?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li><strong> Wellness services cheaper:<\/strong> GST on <strong>gyms, fitness centres, yoga studios, salons, barbers, and wellness services <\/strong>falls from <strong>18% to 5%<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Personal care at 5%:<\/strong> <strong>Hair oil, soap bars, shampoos, toothpaste, toothbrushes, talcum powder, face powder, shaving cream, aftershave<\/strong> move to <strong>5%<\/strong>. A \u20b9<strong>100 shampoo<\/strong> now costs \u20b9<strong>105<\/strong> with GST.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Deterring harmful products:<\/strong> <strong>Cigarettes<\/strong> retain <strong>28% GST + compensation cess<\/strong> (effective <strong>52%\u201388%<\/strong>).
