Encephalitis is a <strong>medical emergency<\/strong> and requires <strong>urgent supportive care<\/strong>..<\/li>\n<li><strong>Prevention<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Vaccination:<\/strong> <strong>Safe and effective vaccines exist <\/strong>(inactivated Vero cell-derived, live attenuated, live recombinant). one inactivated and both live vaccines are WHO-prequalified.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Policy:<\/strong> WHO recommends JE immunization where it is a public health priority, with strong surveillance and a one-time catch-up at introduction.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Key facts<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>First documented JE case: <strong>1871 in Japan<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Risk areas:<\/strong> 24 countries in <strong>South-East Asia and Western Pacific Regions <\/strong>have JEV transmission risk, which includes more than 3 billion people.<\/li>\n<li>JE primarily <strong>affects children<\/strong>.\n<ul>\n<li>Most <strong>adults<\/strong> in endemic countries have <strong>natural immunity<\/strong> after childhood infection, but <strong>individuals of any age may be affected<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: A new study found waning immunity to Japanese encephalitis virus may predispose individuals to more severe dengue, highlighting timing of JE vaccine boosters.
