These <strong>processors are arranged in layers,<\/strong> including CPUs (Central Processing Units) and GPUs (Graphics Processing Units).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Each processor handles a small part of the problem<\/strong>\u00a0and together they provide answers much faster than a single processor could.<\/li>\n<li>They use <strong>parallel computing<\/strong>, which means many calculations are done simultaneously.<\/li>\n<li>Supercomputers <strong>use a lot of electricity as they need efficient power distribution and cooling systems<\/strong> to avoid overheating.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Components of a Supercomputer<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Processors:<\/strong> CPUs and GPUs perform calculations.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Nodes:<\/strong> Groups of processors connected together to work as a single unit.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Network Connection:<\/strong> High-speed connections link nodes so data can be transferred quickly.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Memory &amp; Storage:<\/strong> Each node has its own memory, and large storage systems hold huge amounts of data.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Cooling Systems:<\/strong> Because they produce a lot of heat, supercomputers need advanced cooling with air, water, or special liquids.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Software Used in Supercomputers<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Special software<strong> manages how thousands of processors work together.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It <strong>schedules tasks, controls data flow,<\/strong> and ensures efficient communication.<\/li>\n<li>Programmers use special languages and tools like <strong>MPI (Message Passing Interface)<\/strong> or <strong>OpenMP<\/strong> to write software for supercomputers.<\/li>\n<li>A <strong>scheduler<\/strong> decides which processor runs which task and for how long.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Uses of Supercomputers<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Supercomputers are used for <strong data-start=\"113\" data-end=\"157\">weather forecasting and climate modeling<\/strong> to predict weather patterns and study changes in the environment.<\/li>\n<li>They are used in <strong data-start=\"245\" data-end=\"279\">space research and simulations<\/strong> to model the behavior of planets, stars, and other celestial bodies.<\/li>\n<li>Supercomputers help <strong data-start=\"373\" data-end=\"399\">discover new medicines<\/strong> by simulating chemical reactions and analyzing large biological datasets.<\/li>\n<li>They are used for <strong data-start=\"496\" data-end=\"564\">studying black holes, gravitational waves, and nuclear reactions<\/strong> to understand complex physical phenomena.<\/li>\n<li>Supercomputers are also used for <strong data-start=\"644\" data-end=\"707\">running artificial intelligence and machine learning models<\/strong> to process massive amounts of data and improve accuracy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<table style=\"width: 100%;border-collapse: collapse;border-style: solid\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 720px\">\n<h2>India and Supercomputers<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li data-start=\"2431\" data-end=\"2547\">India\u2019s supercomputing journey began in the late 1980s when Western countries refused to export high-end machines.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2550\" data-end=\"2649\">This led to the creation of the <strong data-start=\"2582\" data-end=\"2638\">Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC)<\/strong> in <strong>1988<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2652\" data-end=\"2735\">India developed its <strong>first series<\/strong> of supercomputers called <strong data-start=\"2710\" data-end=\"2719\">PARAM<\/strong> in the <strong>1990s<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2738\" data-end=\"2841\">Today, India has powerful systems like <strong data-start=\"2777\" data-end=\"2796\">PARAM Siddhi-AI<\/strong> at C-DAC and <strong data-start=\"2810\" data-end=\"2821\">AIRAWAT<\/strong> for AI computing.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2844\" data-end=\"2965\">Facilities like <strong data-start=\"2860\" data-end=\"2878\">NCMRWF (Noida)<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"2883\" data-end=\"2898\">IITM (Pune)<\/strong> use supercomputers for weather forecasting and climate modeling.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2844\" data-end=\"2965\"><strong>National Supercomputing Mission (NSM): <\/strong>India launched the <strong>National Supercomputing Mission (NSM) <\/strong>in <strong>2015<\/strong> as a <strong>joint project<\/strong> of the Department of Science and Technology (<strong>DST<\/strong>) and the Ministry of Electronics and IT (<strong>MeitY<\/strong>), <strong>implemented by C-DAC and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li data-start=\"2844\" data-end=\"2965\"><strong>Goal:<\/strong> Its goal is to build a <strong>network of 70+ high-performance computing facilities<\/strong> across India, with capacities ranging from terafops to petafops, and to develop indigenous hardware and software.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2844\" data-end=\"2965\">India\u2019s current <strong>fastest supercomputer is AIRAWAT-PSAI at C-DAC in Pune<\/strong>;
