Swaminathan Research Foundation<\/strong> to support environmental projects under TN-SHORE.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Aim: <\/strong>TN-SHORE aims to <strong data-start=\"1355\" data-end=\"1395\">restore 30,000 hectares of seascapes<\/strong>, safeguard endangered species like turtles and dugongs, and promote sustainable practices such as eco-tourism and plastic waste management.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Funding:<\/strong> TN-SHORE is a<strong> \u20b91,675-crore initiative approved in September 2025<\/strong> to strengthen Tamil Nadu\u2019s coastal resilience and economy. About \u20b91,000 crore will be funded by the World Bank, while the State Government will contribute the remaining share.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Monitoring Mechanism<\/strong> \u2013 The entire mission will be overseen by the <strong>Tamil Nadu Green Climate Company<\/strong>, ensuring transparency, effective implementation, and outcome tracking.<\/li>\n<li><strong>A key component<\/strong> of TN-SHORE<strong> focuses on mangrove plantation and restoration,<\/strong> with plans to rehabilitate a total of 1,000 hectares of mangroves.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Community Benefits:<\/strong>\u00a0Under the mission, World Bank funds will go directly to <strong data-start=\"604\" data-end=\"633\">village mangrove councils<\/strong>, which consist of local residents. Each council will have a community member as president and the Forest Range Officer as the member-secretary<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tamil Nadu Blue Carbon Agency: <\/strong>\u00a0A special-purpose vehicle, the <strong>Tamil Nadu Blue Carbon Agency<\/strong>, will be established to oversee the <strong>preservation and restoration of coastal ecosystems<\/strong> such as mangroves, seagrass, and salt marshes. This agency will also <strong>create a framework for trading carbon credits<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong data-start=\"1541\" data-end=\"1575\">Legal Protection for Mangroves<\/strong> \u2013 The State Government is moving to bring mangroves under legal protection by <strong data-start=\"1654\" data-end=\"1691\">notifying them as reserve forests<\/strong>.
