Features\u00a0<\/strong><\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 89.7161%;height: 30px\">\n<ul>\n<li>It is <strong>India&#8217;s 16th biosphere reserve and <\/strong><strong data-start=\"333\" data-end=\"394\">India\u2019s first high-altitude cold desert biosphere reserve<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It is also one of the <strong data-start=\"422\" data-end=\"510\">coldest and driest ecosystems in UNESCO\u2019s World Network of Biosphere Reserves (WNBR)<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"516\" data-end=\"594\">The reserve includes <strong data-start=\"537\" data-end=\"565\">Pin Valley National Park<\/strong> and its surrounding areas.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"597\" data-end=\"677\">It also covers <strong>Baralacha Pass, Bharatpur, <\/strong><strong data-start=\"612\" data-end=\"674\">Chandratal Lake, Sarchu, and the Kibber Wildlife Sanctuary<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"62\" data-end=\"136\">It covers an area of about <strong data-start=\"120\" data-end=\"133\">7,770 km\u00b2 and<\/strong>\u00a0altitude ranges from <strong data-start=\"164\" data-end=\"189\">3,300 to 6,600 meters<\/strong> above sea level.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"211\" data-end=\"324\">The landscape includes <strong data-start=\"234\" data-end=\"321\">windswept plateaus, glacial valleys, alpine lakes, and rugged high-altitude deserts<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"597\" data-end=\"677\">About <strong>12,000 people live in scattered villages<\/strong>, practicing herding, farming, and Tibetan herbal medicine, with traditions upheld by <strong>Buddhist monasteries and community councils.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr style=\"height: 10px\">\n<td style=\"width: 10.9152%;height: 10px\"><strong>Flora\u00a0<\/strong><\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 89.7161%;height: 10px\">\n<ul>\n<li>It is home to <strong>655 herb species, 41 shrub species, and 17 tree species, including 14 endemics and 47 medicinal plants<\/strong> vital to the Sowa Rigpa\/Amchi system.<\/li>\n<li>It also includes <strong>20 fodder species<\/strong> in the <strong>whole Spiti region,<\/strong> and more than <strong>66 species of plants have some economic importance<\/strong> for local communities.<\/li>\n<li>Some important plants being used locally include <strong>Hippophae rhamnoides, Salix spp, Betula utilis, Myricaria germanica, Aconitum heterophyllum (EN) etc.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr style=\"height: 30px\">\n<td style=\"width: 10.9152%;height: 10px\"><strong>Fauna\u00a0<\/strong><\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 89.7161%;height: 10px\">\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0Species such as <strong>Himalayan black bear, Himalayan blue sheep, Himalayan ibex, snow pigeon, woolly hare, etc<\/strong> are found here.<\/li>\n<li>Some of the <strong>threatened fauna:<\/strong>\u00a0Snow Leopard, Himalayan Griffon, Bearded Vulture\/ Lammergeier, Red Fox, Himalayan
