About<\/strong><\/td>\nIt is a national-level, community-driven campaign to conserve water and recharge groundwater.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It builds on Gujarat\u2019s Jal Sanchay experience<\/strong> and scales it through Centre\u2013State collaboration<\/strong>.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Aim<\/strong><\/td>\nIts aims is to promote community-driven water conservation<\/strong> and groundwater recharge<\/strong> efforts across India.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Launched by<\/strong><\/td>\nThe initiative was launched by Prime Minister on September 6, 2024, in Surat, Gujarat.<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Ministry involved <\/strong><\/td>\nMinistry of Jal Shakti<\/strong> ( led by the Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation)<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Approach Taken<\/strong><\/td>\nIt is driven by a whole-of-society and a whole-of-government<\/strong> approach<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Key Aspects<\/strong><\/td>\n\n

  • Community empowerment:<\/strong> Social and community participation drives transformative change in water conservation and groundwater recharge.<\/li>\n
  • Recharge focus:<\/strong> Special emphasis on artificial recharge structures and borewell recharge shafts to increase storage and augment groundwater.<\/li>\n
  • On-ground works:<\/strong> The initiative includes the construction of small check dams, gabion structures, gully plugs, percolation ponds, soak pits, taankas, and stepwells, as well as desilting undertaken under MGNREGA.<\/li>\n
  • Recognition mechanism:<\/strong> District-level awards<\/strong> under Jal Shakti Abhiyan<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
