{"id":347311,"date":"2025-10-03T16:34:05","date_gmt":"2025-10-03T11:04:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/?p=347311"},"modified":"2025-10-03T16:34:05","modified_gmt":"2025-10-03T11:04:05","slug":"promotion-of-research-innovation-in-pharma-medtech-sector-prip-scheme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/promotion-of-research-innovation-in-pharma-medtech-sector-prip-scheme\/","title":{"rendered":"Promotion of Research &amp; Innovation in Pharma-MedTech Sector (PRIP) Scheme"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>News: <\/strong>The Department of Pharmaceuticals has invited applications for research and innovation projects under its Promotion of Research and Innovation in Pharma-MedTech Sector (PRIP) scheme.<\/p>\n<h2>About Promotion of Research &amp; Innovation in Pharma-MedTech Sector (PRIP) Scheme<\/h2>\n<figure style=\"width: 495px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/static.pib.gov.in\/WriteReadData\/userfiles\/image\/image002VWOR.jpg?resize=495%2C318&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Promotion of Research &amp; Innovation in Pharma-MedTech Sector (PRIP) Scheme\" width=\"495\" height=\"318\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: PIB<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li>It is an <strong>initiative to transform the Indian Pharma MedTech sector into a globally competitive, <\/strong>innovation-driven sector by strengthening the research infrastructure in the country.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Launched by<\/strong>:\u00a0Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Aim:<\/strong> To promote industry-academia linkage for R &amp; D in priority areas, inculcate a culture of quality research, and nurture pool of scientists.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Implementation:<\/strong>\u00a0 An <strong>Empowered Committee under the chairmanship of the CEO, NITI Aayog,<\/strong> with Secretary level representation of Pharmaceuticals, Health, ICMR, DBT, CSIR, AYUSH, and DST will provide guidance for the implementation of this Scheme.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Features of the scheme<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Industry-Academia Collaboration: <\/strong>It encourages <strong>industry and startups to collaborate with reputed Government, academic, and research institutions<\/strong> (\u201cAcademia\u201d) for both Early Stage and later-stage projects.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Component of the scheme:<\/strong> The Scheme is <strong>applicable for research and innovation for both human and animal health<\/strong> and <strong>has two components<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Component A:<\/strong>\u00a0Strengthening the research infrastructure by establishment of 7 CoEs at NIPERs-These CoEs would be set up in pre identified areas with a financial outlay of\u00a0Rs 700 Crores.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Component B<\/strong>: Promoting research in pharmaceutical sector by encouraging research in six priority areas wherein financial assistance will be provided for the Industries, MSME, SME, Startups working with government institutes and for both in- house and academic research.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Key focus areas of the scheme:<\/strong> The six focus areas of the scheme are <strong>new chemical entities<\/strong>, including biological and phytopharmaceuticals;<strong> complex generics and biosimilars,<\/strong> <strong>precision medicines<\/strong> such as gene therapy and stem cells;<strong> medical devices using artificial intelligence and machine learning<\/strong>; <strong>orphan drugs a<\/strong>nd <strong>anti-microbial resistance.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Support for innovation from idea to market:<\/strong> Early-stage projects with costs up to \u20b99 crore can receive assistance of up to \u20b95 crore, while later-stage projects with costs up to \u20b9285 crore are eligible for assistance of up to \u20b9100 crore.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: The Department of Pharmaceuticals has invited applications for research and innovation projects under its Promotion of Research and Innovation in Pharma-MedTech Sector (PRIP) scheme.
