{"id":347312,"date":"2025-10-03T15:07:20","date_gmt":"2025-10-03T09:37:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/?p=347312"},"modified":"2025-10-03T15:28:16","modified_gmt":"2025-10-03T09:58:16","slug":"biomedical-research-career-programme-brcp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/biomedical-research-career-programme-brcp\/","title":{"rendered":"Biomedical Research Career Programme (BRCP)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>News:<\/strong> Recently, the Union Cabinet approved the continuation of the Biomedical Research Career Programme (BRCP), Phase-III.<\/p>\n<h2>About Biomedical Research Career Programme (BRCP)<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_347317\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-347317\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-347317\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Source-GoI.jpg?resize=300%2C300&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Source-GoI.jpg?resize=300%2C300&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Source-GoI.jpg?resize=150%2C150&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Source-GoI.jpg?resize=768%2C765&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Source-GoI.jpg?w=875&amp;ssl=1 875w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-347317\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source &#8211; GoI<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li>It provides <strong>opportunities<\/strong> to early, intermediate, and senior <strong>researchers<\/strong> to build <strong>research and academic careers<\/strong> in <strong>biomedical, clinical, and public health fields<\/strong> in India.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ministry involved: The Department of Biotechnology <\/strong>and<strong> Ministry of Science and Technology<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Initiative by:<\/strong> The <strong>Department of Biotechnology <\/strong>in partnership with the Wellcome Trust (WT), UK, through the <strong>DBT\/Wellcome Trust India Alliance (India Alliance)<\/strong>, a dedicated Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Phases of the scheme<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Phase 1:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It was set up in <strong>2008\u201309 for a period of ten years<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It was launched to offer India-based fellowships at world-class standards.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Phase 2:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It was <strong>extended for another five years from FY 2019\u201320.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Its mission is to \u201cenable biomedical research in India through funding and engagement.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Phase 3:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Aim<\/strong>:\u00a0It aims to train more than 2,000 students and postdoctoral fellows, generate high-impact publications, and enable patentable discoveries.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Duration:<\/strong> Phase-III will <strong>run for six years from FY 2025\u201326 to 2030\u201331<\/strong>, with an <strong>additional servicing period from FY 2031\u201332 to 2037\u201338 <\/strong>for fellowships and grants approved till 2030\u201331.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Funding:<\/strong> Total \u20b9<strong>1,500 crore<\/strong> (\u20b91,000 crore from DBT and \u20b9500 crore from the Wellcome Trust).<\/li>\n<li><strong>It targets<\/strong> a 10\u201315% increase in support for women researchers.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Expectation:<\/strong> Around 25\u201330% of collaborative programmes are expected to progress to Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 4 and beyond.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Expansion:<\/strong> It will expand activities in <strong>Tier-2 and Tier-3 settings<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: Recently, the Union Cabinet approved the continuation of the Biomedical Research Career Programme (BRCP), Phase-III.
