Its variability is influenced by <strong>large-scale climate patterns<\/strong>, especially <strong>El Ni\u00f1o<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Role in Monsoon Onset<\/strong><strong style=\"font-size: 22px\">: <\/strong>The MWP induces <strong>local atmospheric convection<\/strong>, helping to <strong>draw southwesterly monsoon winds<\/strong> toward the Kerala coast. It acts as a <strong>precursor<\/strong> that helps <strong>initiate<\/strong> the Indian Summer Monsoon.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Link with El Ni\u00f1o and the Indian Ocean Capacitor Effect<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>El Ni\u00f1o<\/strong> peaks in the <strong>Pacific Ocean (Nov\u2013Jan)<\/strong> but impacts the <strong>Indian Ocean<\/strong> after a <strong>delay of 4\u20135 months<\/strong>. This delayed influence is known as the <strong>Indian Ocean Capacitor Effect where<\/strong>\u00a0the Indian Ocean \u201cstores\u201d El Ni\u00f1o\u2019s energy and \u201creleases\u201d it later.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>anomalous easterly winds<\/strong> generated by this effect reduce surface cooling in the southeastern Arabian Sea, <strong>intensifying the MWP<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>These <strong>easterly winds<\/strong> tend to <strong>delay<\/strong> the overall monsoon onset.\n<ul>\n<li>However, the <strong>stronger MWP<\/strong> generated by the same winds creates <strong>local low pressure<\/strong>, pulling moisture-laden air toward Kerala and <strong>helping restore the monsoon\u2019s timing<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The MWP acts as a <strong>\u201cself-correcting\u201d system. <\/strong>It <strong>mitigates<\/strong> El Ni\u00f1o\u2019s delaying impact on the Indian monsoon<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Importance for Forecasting<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Monitoring the MWP<\/strong> can <strong>reduce uncertainty<\/strong> in monsoon prediction and <strong>improve seasonal forecasts<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Better forecasts benefit <strong>farmers, policymakers, and water resource managers<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The MWP demonstrates the <strong>tight coupling<\/strong> between the <strong>Pacific and Indian Oceans<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It highlights how <strong>small oceanic features<\/strong> can influence <strong>continental-scale weather<\/strong> and <strong>livelihoods of over a billion people<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: A new study has revealed how a small warm patch of water in the southeastern Arabian Sea, known as the Mini Warm Pool (MWP), helps the Indian Summer Monsoon (ISM) recover from the disruptive effects of El Ni\u00f1o.
