{"id":34830,"date":"2018-10-31T13:29:36","date_gmt":"2018-10-31T07:59:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=34830"},"modified":"2018-10-31T13:29:36","modified_gmt":"2018-10-31T07:59:36","slug":"service-for-swachhata","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/service-for-swachhata\/","title":{"rendered":"Service For Swachhata:\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/indianexpress.com\/article\/opinion\/columns\/service-for-swachhata\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Service For Swachhata<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Context: <\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Started on 15th August, 2014, It has been three years of the Swachh Bharat Mission.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi called for an accelerated, nation-wide campaign termed Swachhata Hi Seva, from September 15 to October 2.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>What is the progress of Swachh Bharat Mission in three years? <\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rural sanitation coverage has increased from 39 per cent to 70 per cent.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As many as 250 million people, almost equal to the population of Indonesia, have stopped defecating in the open since the SBM began. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Usage of the toilets built is over 90 per cent, according to a survey by the Quality Council of India. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Good progress is also being made in urban areas.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>What is Swachhata Hi Seva? <\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Prime Minister calls for Swachhata Hi Seva on September 15th, 2017.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">People have come together and cleaned public places like bus stands, railway stations, parks, monuments and places of historical and cultural importance.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">People also helped to construct twin-pit toilets for those who were unable to do so themselves.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, along with the Indian Railways, also did its bit by participating in a cleanliness drive at the Railway Stations.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Perhaps the most inspirational contribution to the Swachhata Hi Seva movement came from the officers and jawans of the Indian Army at the Siachen glacier, who carried out a cleanliness drive at the world\u2019s highest battleground.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>What is the significant effect of the mission? <\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Swachhata Hi Seva campaign has re-invigorated the spirit of cleanliness in everyone\u2019s heart. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has already succeeded in making SBM a true jan andolan.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Service For Swachhata:\u00a0 Context: Started on 15th August, 2014, It has been three years of the Swachh Bharat Mission.
