{"id":34832,"date":"2018-10-31T13:30:19","date_gmt":"2018-10-31T08:00:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=34832"},"modified":"2018-10-31T13:30:19","modified_gmt":"2018-10-31T08:00:19","slug":"gst-old-habits-spur-poor-compliance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/gst-old-habits-spur-poor-compliance\/","title":{"rendered":"GST: old habits spur poor compliance:"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/todays-paper\/tp-business\/gst-old-habits-spur-poor-compliance\/article19782396.ece\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">GST: old habits spur poor compliance<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Context<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The government had last week announced that, though the last date for filing the GSTR-3B form for August was September 20, only 55% of those \u2018required to file\u2019 had done so by September 25.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>What are the reasons behind half of the registered taxpayers filing their August returns?<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It could be due to a combination of behavioural reasons, and the clashing of various deadlines.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It could also be that the taxpayers are waiting to first deal with the more complicated GSTR-1 form and then turn to the GSTR-3B.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It appears that 45% of the assessees have still not filed returns.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>What should be done?<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Government should go to the root cause and analyse whether these assessees are facing some genuine problems or they have been migrated automatically and are not required to comply.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many small vendors have had to register themselves on the GST Network in order to obtain a GST number, something their buyers need them to have for the purpose of availing input tax credits. However, once registered, these small businesses have to file their returns regularly.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Issue of Zero returns<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All the people who have taken up a GST registration have to file their returns, even if it is a zero return.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>GST: old habits spur poor compliance: Context The government had last week announced that, though the last date for filing the GSTR-3B form for August was September 20, only 55% of those \u2018required to file\u2019 had done so by September 25.
