{"id":34869,"date":"2018-10-31T14:14:23","date_gmt":"2018-10-31T08:44:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=34869"},"modified":"2018-10-31T14:14:23","modified_gmt":"2018-10-31T08:44:23","slug":"epfo-gets-notice-under-gst","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/epfo-gets-notice-under-gst\/","title":{"rendered":"EPFO gets notice under GST:\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/todays-paper\/tp-business\/epfo-gets-notice-under-gst\/article19765854.ece\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">EPFO gets notice under GST<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Context:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Goods and Service Tax (GST) Intelligence unit has slapped a notice on the Employees\u2019 Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) for defaulting on payment of service tax.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Introduction:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The GST The Intelligence Unit has also sought to examine the PF department\u2019s records till 2016-17.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It had sought for overall records of all its regional and zonal offices and issued separate notices to EPFO\u2019s different offices.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>EPFO\u2019s stand:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The EPFO said that the PF office was exempted from paying service tax from April 2016 and hence, its services were exempt from any levy under the new indirect tax system.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It also challenged the demand for levy of service tax on statutory administration charges and interest charged by EPFO.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The EPFO cited an order dated April 13 from the Customs, Excise and Service Tax Appellate Tribunal which said that it was not liable to pay service tax on the statutory activities performed under the Employees\u2019 Provident Fund and Miscellaneous Provisions Act 1952.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>EPFO gets notice under GST:\u00a0 Context: The Goods and Service Tax (GST) Intelligence unit has slapped a notice on the Employees\u2019 Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) for defaulting on payment of service tax.
