Each ring surrounds <strong>groups of 50 to 70 mature trees<\/strong>, forming individual research plots for the experiment.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Experimental Design<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>After the initial <strong>baseline testing<\/strong>, scientists will <strong>release CO\u2082<\/strong> into <strong>three of the six rings<\/strong> to simulate the <strong>atmospheric conditions expected in future decades<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>remaining three rings<\/strong> will serve as <strong>control plots<\/strong>, allowing researchers to compare the responses of trees exposed to elevated CO\u2082 with those in normal conditions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Working mechanism:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>FACE systems <strong>release controlled amounts of CO\u2082 into open-air forest plots.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>This method <strong>simulates elevated CO\u2082 conditions without enclosing the vegetation<\/strong>, allowing researchers to study natural forest responses.<\/li>\n<li>The project uses <strong>FACE (Free-Air CO\u2082 Enrichment) technology<\/strong>, which allows CO\u2082 to be released directly into the open-air environment without enclosing the vegetation.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sensors<\/strong> installed across the site record data every <strong>10 minutes<\/strong>, tracking how trees <strong>absorb carbon dioxide<\/strong>, <strong>release oxygen<\/strong>, and <strong>emit water vapor. <\/strong>These sensors also measure how trees respond to <strong>rainfall, storms, sunlight<\/strong>, and other environmental factors.<\/li>\n<li>In later phases, scientists will simulate <strong>future atmospheric conditions<\/strong>, such as CO\u2082 levels expected in <strong>2050 or 2060<\/strong>, to observe long-term ecosystem responses.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Scientific and Environmental Significance<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>Amazon rainforest<\/strong> plays a vital role in <strong>regulating the global climate<\/strong> and <strong>absorbing carbon dioxide<\/strong> from the atmosphere.<\/li>\n<li>Understanding how the forest reacts to increased CO\u2082 levels is essential for <strong>predicting its future ability to act as a carbon sink<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The data will help scientists <strong>refine climate models<\/strong> and guide <strong>global environmental policies<\/strong> focused on carbon management and forest conservation.<\/li>\n<li>This research is particularly important at a time when <strong>wildfires and climate crises<\/strong> are intensifying worldwide.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: The AmazonFACE project, situated near the city of Manaus, seeks to explore how climate change will influence the Amazon rainforest, its rich biodiversity, and the ecosystem services it provides to humankind.
