entries<\/strong> this year.<\/li>\n<li>Overall, <strong>India now has 294 institutions<\/strong> in the QS Asia rankings, compared to <strong>China\u2019s 395<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong data-start=\"91\" data-end=\"131\">Nine of India\u2019s top ten institutions<\/strong>\u00a0 including <strong data-start=\"144\" data-end=\"158\">seven IITs<\/strong>\u00a0 have seen a <strong data-start=\"173\" data-end=\"196\">decline in rankings<\/strong> in the QS Asia University Rankings 2026.<\/li>\n<li>Despite the fall in rank, <strong>most Indian institutions\u2019 scores have actually improved<\/strong>, indicating <strong>tougher competition<\/strong> from other Asian countries.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>University of Hong Kong<\/strong> topped the list, followed by <strong>Peking University<\/strong> (China) and <strong>National University of Singapore<\/strong> and <strong>Nanyang Technological University<\/strong> (joint third).<\/li>\n<li><strong>China, Hong Kong, and Singapore<\/strong> continue to dominate the top 10, while <strong>South Korea and Malaysia<\/strong> show notable upward movement.<\/li>\n<li><strong>South Korea<\/strong>\u2019s leading universities like <strong>Yonsei University<\/strong> and <strong>Korea University<\/strong> climbed steadily due to strategic focus on <strong>research and internationalisation<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Malaysia<\/strong> also improved, with <strong>Universiti Malaya<\/strong> and <strong>Universiti Putra Malaysia<\/strong> gaining ranks on the back of <strong>better faculty-student ratios<\/strong> and <strong>international engagement<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify\">About Findings Related to India<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\" data-start=\"2677\" data-end=\"2801\">Among these, <strong data-start=\"2690\" data-end=\"2715\">Chandigarh University<\/strong> was the <strong data-start=\"2724\" data-end=\"2736\">only one<\/strong> to <strong data-start=\"2740\" data-end=\"2760\">improve its rank<\/strong>, moving from <strong data-start=\"2774\" data-end=\"2788\">120 to 109<\/strong> this year.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>36 Indian universities have improved their ranking this year<\/strong> with Sathyamaba Institute of Science and Technology seeing the biggest improvement.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\" data-start=\"2804\" data-end=\"2890\"><strong data-start=\"2804\" data-end=\"2818\">IIT Bombay<\/strong> recorded the <strong data-start=\"2832\" data-end=\"2849\">sharpest fall<\/strong>, dropping <strong data-start=\"2860\" data-end=\"2873\">23 places<\/strong> from 48 to 71.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\" data-start=\"2893\" data-end=\"2993\"><strong data-start=\"2893\" data-end=\"2906\">IIT Delhi<\/strong> remained India\u2019s <strong data-start=\"2924\" data-end=\"2950\">top-ranked institution<\/strong>, even though it fell <strong data-start=\"2972\" data-end=\"2984\">15 ranks<\/strong> to 59<\/li>\n<li><strong>Reasons for Rank Decline:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\">Indian institutes <strong>improved overall scores<\/strong>, but <strong>others in the region advanced faster<\/strong>, especially in research and global engagement.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Citations per paper<\/strong>: Indian IITs lag behind regional leaders, for example, IIT Delhi (31.5), IIT Bombay (20.0), IIT Madras (20.3) compared to top Asian universities scoring in the 90s.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Faculty-Student Ratio<\/strong>: Many IITs face <strong>resource and staffing challenges<\/strong>, with scores ranging from <strong>16.5 (IIT Kharagpur)<\/strong> to <strong>40.9 (IIT Delhi)<\/strong>\u00a0far below the top Asian average (80\u201390 range).<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Internationalisation<\/strong>: IITs continue to have <strong>very low international student ratios<\/strong> (2.5\u201312.3), compared with <strong>global leaders scoring 100<\/strong> on this metric.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Limited international faculty<\/strong> and <strong>research collaboration<\/strong> further weaken their global
