TFFF<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li>The TFFF is a mechanism that <strong>incentivizes conserving and expanding tropical forests<\/strong> by making <strong>predictable annual payments for maintaining standing forests.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Aim<\/strong>: The Facility <strong>aims<\/strong> to <strong>remunerate countries<\/strong> for keeping forests intact, valuing ecosystem services, and making standing forests economically preferable to deforestation.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Initiative by: <\/strong>The initiative is led by <strong>Brazil,<\/strong> with <strong>India <\/strong>participating as an <strong>Observer.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Launched at: <\/strong>It is launched at<strong> COP30 in Bel<\/strong><strong>\u00e9<\/strong><strong>m, Brazil.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Member<\/strong>: So far, <strong>five<\/strong> other tropical forest nations have joined which are &#8211;\u00a0 <strong>Colombia, Ghana, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Indonesia, and Malaysia.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Potential investors:<\/strong> <strong>Germany, the United Arab Emirates, France, Norway, and the United Kingdom <\/strong>are helping shape the mechanism as potential investors.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Funding<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>J<\/strong><strong>unior capital<\/strong><strong>:<\/strong> Investor nations are expected to provide an initial <strong>USD 25 billion as junior capital,<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Private senior capital<\/strong><strong>: <\/strong>With this injection, it should be possible to leverage an additional <strong>USD 100 billion in private senior capital over the next few years.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Projections indicate the <strong>mechanism could generate about USD 4 billion annually<\/strong> for environmental preservation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Functions<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Performance verification: <\/strong>Participating countries must submit annual, satellite-verified reports to prove conservation performance.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Payment formula:<\/strong> Payments are based on <strong>USD 4 per hectare preserved<\/strong> and may be cut or discounted if deforestation or degradation is measured.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Spending autonomy:<\/strong> Beneficiary countries retain autonomy to decide the <strong>final use of the funds<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Indigenous allocation:<\/strong> Countries <strong>must set aside 20% of the resources specifically for indigenous peoples and traditional communities.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Investment exclusions:<\/strong> Investments in projects involving <strong>fossil fuels are prohibited.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Green prioritization:<\/strong> Priority is given to actions and securities from governments and companies in emerging countries and to products considered green.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Carbon Market and TFFF:<\/strong> Compared to a <strong>carbon-credit coalition<\/strong> that <strong>compensates actors for greenhouse-gas removals<\/strong> under a gradually reducing global cap, the <strong>TFFF would pay sovereign states<\/strong> for <strong>keeping forests intact<\/strong>, creating clear complementarity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: India welcomed Brazil\u2019s initiative to establish the Tropical Forests Forever Facility (TFFF) for conserving tropical forests.
