{"id":34976,"date":"2018-10-31T14:38:59","date_gmt":"2018-10-31T09:08:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=34976"},"modified":"2018-10-31T14:38:59","modified_gmt":"2018-10-31T09:08:59","slug":"japan-keen-on-friendship-with-northeast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/japan-keen-on-friendship-with-northeast\/","title":{"rendered":"Japan keen on friendship with northeast:"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/todays-paper\/tp-national\/japan-keen-on-friendship-with-northeast\/article19749582.ece\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Japan keen on friendship with northeast<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Context<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the fourth Northeast Connectivity Summit in Kohima from September 22 to 23, a representative of the Embassy of Japan said Tokyo would invest in the region\u2019s infrastructure, education and people-to-people sectors.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Why northeastern region?<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The northeastern region is located at a strategically and economically important juncture between India and Southeast Asia as well as within the Bimstec (Bay of Bengal) community.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Therefore, Japan has placed a particular importance on the cooperation in the northeastern region.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>The new road connectivity<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The northeast, Japan had undertaken works on road connectivity, energy projects, water supply and sanitation, forest resources management, Japanese language education and post-war reconciliation, which aimed to build a deeper understanding of the actions of Japanese forces in the region during the Second World War.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tokyo Is committed to undertakE two major road and infrastructure building projects in Mizoram and Meghalaya. But the event in Kohima provided a broader portrait of Japan\u2019s interest in the northeast.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>The next Connectivity Summit<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The next Connectivity Summit in Tawang is expected to take Japan\u2019s representation into the strategically located region that borders China.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was noteworthy that during Mr. Abe\u2019s visit, Japanese officials had declined to spell out if Tokyo would be interested in acquiring projects in Arunachal Pradesh.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Myanmar\u2019s interest<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The summit also indicated Myanmar\u2019s interest in the potential of the region.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nagaland\u2019s Chief Secretary Pankaj Kumar urged improved connectivity with Myanmar for unlocking the regional trade potential.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Japan keen on friendship with northeast: Context At the fourth Northeast Connectivity Summit in Kohima from September 22 to 23, a representative of the Embassy of Japan said Tokyo would invest in the region\u2019s infrastructure, education and people-to-people sectors.
