{"id":350009,"date":"2025-11-15T14:48:55","date_gmt":"2025-11-15T09:18:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/?p=350009"},"modified":"2025-11-15T14:48:55","modified_gmt":"2025-11-15T09:18:55","slug":"saranda-forest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/saranda-forest\/","title":{"rendered":"Saranda Forest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>News: <\/strong>Recently, the Supreme Court directed the Government of Jharkhand to notify 31,468.25 hectares of the Saranda Game Sanctuary as Saranda Wildlife Sanctuary.<\/p>\n<h2><b>About Saranda Forest<\/b><\/h2>\n<figure style=\"width: 448px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/sabrangindia.in\/sites\/default\/files\/saranda_forest.jpg?resize=448%2C224&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Saranda Forest\" width=\"448\" height=\"224\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: Sabrangindia<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Saranda Forest is located in the <\/span><b>West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The name <\/span><b>\u201cSaranda\u201d comes from a local expression meaning \u201cThe Land of Seven Hundred Hills,\u201d<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> reflecting its hilly geography.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Area: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The forest covers an area of <strong>about 820 square kilometers<\/strong> and has recently been declared a wildlife sanctuary.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>It is inhabited by the <strong>Ho, Munda, Oraon and allied Adivasi<\/strong> communities.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Vegetation: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Saranda is dominated by dense sal forests, which form the major vegetation cover.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong>River: Karo River<\/strong> flows through the forest.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Flora: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The forest also includes teak, palash, mahua, bamboo, and various other indigenous plant species.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The<\/span><b> Tholkobad region in the forest is a special habitat for rare orchids, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">including all <strong>11 known species of the Dendrobium genus<\/strong> and the rare <\/span><b>Bulbophyllum crassipes and Pecteilistriflora.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Fauna:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Saranda Forest supports<\/span><b> 28 species of mammals, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">including elephants and leopards.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is home to around <\/span><b>60 different bird species<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, making it significant for birdwatching.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The region contains about 20 reptile species and 8 amphibian species, highlighting its ecological diversity.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A total of<strong> 63 butterfly species<\/strong> have been recorded in the forest, adding to its biodiversity richness.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: Recently, the Supreme Court directed the Government of Jharkhand to notify 31,468.25 hectares of the Saranda Game Sanctuary as Saranda Wildlife Sanctuary.
