{"id":350728,"date":"2025-11-26T18:20:38","date_gmt":"2025-11-26T12:50:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/?p=350728"},"modified":"2025-11-26T18:20:38","modified_gmt":"2025-11-26T12:50:38","slug":"lachit-borphukan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/lachit-borphukan\/","title":{"rendered":"Lachit Borphukan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>News<\/strong>: Every year, 24th November is celebrated as Lachit Diwas to mark the birth anniversary of Ahom general Lachit Borphukan.<\/p>\n<h2>About Lachit Borphukan<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Lachit Borphukan was an <strong>Ahom army commander<\/strong> known for leading the <strong>1671 Battle of Saraighat<\/strong> against the <strong>Mughals<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Birth<\/strong>: He was born on 24th November 1622.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Battle of Saraighat: <\/strong>In the <strong>1671 Battle of Saraighat<\/strong>, fought on the <strong>Brahmaputra River<\/strong>, he lured the Mughals into a naval battle and defeated their fleet.<\/li>\n<li><strong>G<\/strong><strong>uerrilla tactics<\/strong><strong>: <\/strong>He <strong>preferred guerrilla tactics<\/strong>, using mobile forces to raid large Mughal camps and positions.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Death<\/strong>: He died on <strong>25th April 1672, a year after the Battle of Saraighat.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>He was the <strong>inspiration behind strengthening India<\/strong><strong>\u2019<\/strong><strong>s naval force<\/strong> and revitalising inland water transport and creating infrastructure associated with it due to his great naval strategies.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Recognition: <\/strong>The<strong> Lachit Borphukan gold medal<\/strong>, instituted in<strong> 1999<\/strong>, is awarded to the best <strong>National Defence Academy cadet.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>About Ahom Dynasty<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Established<\/strong>: The Ahom kingdom was <strong>founded in 1228 in the Brahmaputra valley of Assam.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Founder: <\/strong>The kingdom was <strong>founded by Chaolung Sukapha.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>First permanent capital:<\/strong> <strong>Charaideo<\/strong> was the first permanent capital of the Ahom empire, which was <strong>founded by the Ahom monarch Chao Lung Siu-Ka-Pha.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The Ahoms <strong>fought several Mughal campaigns<\/strong> between <strong>1615 and 1682<\/strong> while retaining independence.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ahom rule ended in 1826 <\/strong>when the <strong>Treaty of Yandaboo annexed<\/strong> the province to British India.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: Every year, 24th November is celebrated as Lachit Diwas to mark the birth anniversary of Ahom general Lachit Borphukan.
