for Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage from 8 to 13 December 2025 in New Delhi.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify\">About Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (IGC)<\/h2>\n<figure style=\"width: 361px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: PIB<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\">The <strong>Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (IGC)<\/strong> was established under the framework of the <strong>2003 UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\">Elections for the Committee are held during the <strong>General Assembly<\/strong> of the States Parties to the Convention, ensuring <strong>equitable geographical representation<\/strong> and <strong>rotation<\/strong> of members.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\">The Committee consists of <strong>24 elected representatives<\/strong> from the States Parties to the Convention.\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\">Currently, <strong>India<\/strong> is one of the 24 Member States, <strong>serving<\/strong> on the Committee.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Term of office:<\/strong> States Members to the Committee are <strong>elected for a term of four years<\/strong>, and <strong>every two years<\/strong>, the General Assembly shall <strong>renew half<\/strong> of them.\n<ul>\n<li>A State Member of the Committee may <strong>not be elected for two consecutive terms.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Bureau Members<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Chairperson<\/strong>: Ambassador, Permanent Delegate of the <strong>Republic of India<\/strong> to UNESCO<\/li>\n<li><strong>Vice-Chairpersons<\/strong>: France, Slovakia, Barbados, Ethiopia, and Mauritania<\/li>\n<li><strong>Rapporteur<\/strong>: Ms. Aysha Kamali, United Arab Emirates<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Functions<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Promotes and Monitors the Objectives of the 2003 Convention:<\/strong> The committee actively works to <strong>promote the principles and objectives<\/strong> of the <strong>2003 Convention<\/strong> for safeguarding intangible cultural heritage.\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\">It monitors the <strong>effective implementation<\/strong> of the Convention&#8217;s principles across different <strong>Member States<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Provides Guidance and Recommendations:<\/strong> The committee <strong>guides<\/strong> States Parties on <strong>best practices<\/strong> for the safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Oversees the Intangible Cultural Heritage Fund:<\/strong> It prepares and submits the <strong>draft plan<\/strong> for the <strong>use of the Intangible Cultural Heritage Fund<\/strong> to the <strong>General Assembly<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Drafts Operational Directives:<\/strong> The committee <strong>drafts and proposes<\/strong> operational directives for the <strong>implementation<\/strong> of the 2003 Convention, ensuring practical application across Member States.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Examines Reports from States Parties: <\/strong>The committee <strong>examines the periodic reports<\/strong> submitted by States Parties, reviewing their progress in safeguarding intangible cultural heritage.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Evaluates Requests from States Parties:<\/strong> The committee <strong>evaluates various requests<\/strong> from States Parties related to the safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage, including: <strong>Inscription<\/strong> of cultural elements on the <strong>UNESCO ICH Lists<\/strong> (as per Articles 16, 17, and 18) and g<strong>ranting of international assistance<\/strong> to help preserve intangible cultural
