This will be the third occasion on which India has been entrusted with the chairpersonship of the Kimberley Process.<\/p>\n<h2>About Kimberley Process and India&#8217;s Role<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_352773\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-352773\" style=\"width: 316px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-352773 \" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Source-PIB-4.jpg?resize=316%2C372&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Kimberley Process and India's Role\" width=\"316\" height=\"372\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Source-PIB-4.jpg?resize=255%2C300&amp;ssl=1 255w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Source-PIB-4.jpg?w=701&amp;ssl=1 701w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 316px) 100vw, 316px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-352773\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source &#8211; PIB<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li>The Kimberley Process is a <strong>tripartite international initiative<\/strong> involving <strong>governments<\/strong>, the <strong>global diamond industry<\/strong>, and <strong>civil society.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Objective:<\/strong> To <strong>prevent the trade in \u201cconflict diamonds\u201d<\/strong> that are used to finance armed conflicts and undermine legitimate governments<\/li>\n<li><strong>Origin:<\/strong> The <strong>Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) was established<\/strong> pursuant to a <strong>United Nations resolution<\/strong> and became <strong>operational on 1 January 2003<\/strong> as a mechanism to <strong>curb the trade in conflict diamonds.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Members:<\/strong> The<strong> Kimberley Process currently comprises 60 participants<\/strong>, with the <strong>European Union and its Member States<\/strong> counted collectively as a single participant.<\/li>\n<li>Together, Kimberley Process <strong>participants <\/strong>account for<strong> more than 99% of global rough diamond trade<\/strong>, making it the most comprehensive international regulatory framework governing this sector.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>India&#8217;s Role<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>India<\/strong> was a <strong>founding participant<\/strong> of the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (<strong>KPCS<\/strong>) in 2003.<\/li>\n<li><strong>As the Chair in 2026<\/strong>, India will <strong>work closely<\/strong> with all Kimberley Process<strong> participants and observers<\/strong> to reinforce trust in the initiative.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Key Objective during the chairmanship:<\/strong> Enhancing transparency through data-driven monitoring and building consumer confidence in conflict-free diamonds.<\/li>\n<li>India will <strong>aim to ensure rule-based compliance, enhance the credibility of the Kimberley Process, and contribute to making it a more inclusive, effective, and robust multilateral framework<\/strong> aligned with evolving global expectations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: The Kimberley Process (KP) Plenary has selected India to assume the chairpersonship of the Kimberley Process with effect from 1 January 2026.
