{"id":352779,"date":"2025-12-26T16:50:56","date_gmt":"2025-12-26T11:20:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/?p=352779"},"modified":"2025-12-26T16:50:56","modified_gmt":"2025-12-26T11:20:56","slug":"santhali-language","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/santhali-language\/","title":{"rendered":"Santhali language"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>News: <\/strong>The President of India released the Constitution of India in the Santhali language, written in the Ol Chiki script, at Rashtrapati Bhavan.<\/p>\n<h2>About Santhali Language<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_352782\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-352782\" style=\"width: 262px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-352782\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Source-PIB-1-2.jpg?resize=262%2C300&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Santhali Language\" width=\"262\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Source-PIB-1-2.jpg?resize=262%2C300&amp;ssl=1 262w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Source-PIB-1-2.jpg?w=687&amp;ssl=1 687w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 262px) 100vw, 262px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-352782\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source &#8211; PIB<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li>The Santhali language is <strong>one of the most ancient living languages<\/strong> of India and is spoken by the <strong>Santal tribal community<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Script: <\/strong>Santhali is <strong>primarily written in the Ol Chiki script, which is considered its official script.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It is <strong>also written using Bengali, Odia, Devanagari, and Latin scripts in some regions.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Spoken by:<\/strong> Santhali is spoken by a significant number of people in <strong>Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, and Bihar.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>The Santhali-speaking community is also spread <strong>across Assam, Tripura, Chhattisgarh, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Nepal.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>According to the 2011 Census of India, more than <strong>seventy lakh people<\/strong> speak the Santhali language in India.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Official status: <\/strong>Santhali was included in the <strong>Eighth Schedule of the Constitution of India through the 92nd Amendment Act, 2003.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is recognised as a <strong>scheduled language and has official status in Jharkhand and West Bengal.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Also known as<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>In Nepal, it is known as <strong>Satar<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>In North Bengal, it is known as <strong>ja\u014bli<\/strong> or <strong>paha\u027dia<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>In Bihar, it is known as <strong>parsi<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>About Ol Chiki script<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Inventor<\/strong>: Ol Chiki was <strong>created in 1925 by Raghunath Murmu<\/strong> to write the Santhali language.<\/li>\n<li>It was developed <strong>to promote Santhali culture and identity.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Script type:<\/strong> Ol Chiki is an <strong>alphabetic script<\/strong> in which <strong>vowels and consonants are written as separate and independent letters.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Direction:<\/strong> It is written from <strong>left to right<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Character count:<\/strong> The script has a <strong>total of 30 letters<\/strong>, including <strong>6 vowels<\/strong> and <strong>24 consonants<\/strong>, along with <strong>10 digits<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>centenary of the Ol Chiki script is being celebrated in the year 2025.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: The President of India released the Constitution of India in the Santhali language, written in the Ol Chiki script, at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
