It uses its strong sense of smell to locate insect colonies. An adult pangolin can consume up to 70 million insects in a year.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ecological Role:<\/strong> By controlling <strong>insect populations, the species helps maintain ecological balance<\/strong>. Its <strong>burrowing activity improves soil aeration<\/strong> and nutrient cycling.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Conservation Status: <\/strong>The Chinese pangolin has been listed as <strong>Critically Endangered<\/strong> on the <strong>IUCN Red List<\/strong> since 2014.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Threats:\u00a0<\/strong>Illegal poaching is the primary threat to the Chinese pangolin.
