{"id":353042,"date":"2025-12-31T15:15:32","date_gmt":"2025-12-31T09:45:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/?p=353042"},"modified":"2025-12-31T15:15:32","modified_gmt":"2025-12-31T09:45:32","slug":"sree-narayana-guru-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/sree-narayana-guru-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Sree Narayana Guru"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>News:\u00a0<\/strong>The Vice-President of India inaugurated the 93rd Sivagiri Pilgrimage at Sivagiri Mutt, describing it as a living philosophy of social awakening envisioned by Sree Narayana Guru.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>About Sree Narayana Guru<\/strong><\/h2>\n<figure style=\"width: 360px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pbs.twimg.com\/media\/G9Zr0UZaEAAdLdE?format=jpg&amp;name=360x360\" alt=\"Shree Narayana Guru\" width=\"360\" height=\"208\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: PIB<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\">Sree Narayana Guru (1856\u20131928) was one of the<strong> Hindu social and spiritual reformers of modern Kerala.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\">He was <strong>born in Chempazhanthy<\/strong>, near present-day Thiruvananthapuram, <strong>into an Ezhava family. <\/strong>He was respectfully known as <strong>Gurudevan<\/strong> among his followers.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Teachings and Principles<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Sree Narayana Guru <strong>emphasized self-purification, simplicity, moral living, and universal love<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>He propounded the famous principle of <strong>\u201cOne Caste, One Religion, One God for all human beings.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>He taught that <strong>true liberation comes from knowledge, compassion, and ethical conduct<\/strong> rather than blind faith and ritualism.<\/li>\n<li>He <strong>regarded education as the primary means<\/strong> for human progress and prosperity and <strong>believed education to be the supreme remedy<\/strong> for social evils such as superstition and unhealthy traditions.<\/li>\n<li>He <strong>advocated equal opportunities for women<\/strong> and supported their education. He also <strong>initiated and inspired the establishment of many schools<\/strong> across Kerala <strong>to promote inclusive education.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Temple Entry and Social Reform<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Sree Narayana Guru launched the <strong>Aruvippuram movement<\/strong> to assert equal rights in temple worship. In 1888, he <strong>took a ritual plunge into the Neyyar River<\/strong> and consecrated a Sivalinga at Aruvippuram.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>consecration was done in a makeshift temple and directly challenged centuries-old caste-based restrictions<\/strong> on worship. This act symbolized the empowerment of marginalized communities and asserted their right to spiritual dignity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Upliftment of the Ezhava Community<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>In 1903, he inspired the formation of an organization later known as the <strong>Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana (SNDP) Yogam<\/strong>. The organization worked for the social, educational, and<strong> economic upliftment of the Ezhava community.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Its ideology was <strong>based on self-respect, human dignity, and the intrinsic worth of the individual.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It <strong>represented a protest against Brahminical values<\/strong> of hierarchy, purity, and pollution.<\/li>\n<li>He <strong>created parallel sources of religious and social legitimacy<\/strong> by establishing new institutions such as temples, priests, monks, and monasteries.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Vaikom Satyagraha: <\/strong>Sree Narayana Guru extended his support to the <strong>Vaikom Satyagraha (1924\u20131925)<\/strong> in Travancore.\n<ul>\n<li>The Vaikom Satyagraha <strong>was a historic non-violent movement<\/strong> against untouchability and caste discrimination.<\/li>\n<li>It was <strong>launched to protest the exclusion of lower-caste Hindu<\/strong>s from using the roads leading to the Vaikom Mahadeva Temple.<\/li>\n<li>Leaders such as<strong> T. K. Madhavan, K. P. Kesava Menon, and K. Kelappan<\/strong> played pioneering roles in this movement.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Institutions and Ashrams: <\/strong>In 1913, he founded the <strong>Advaita Ashram at Aluva<\/strong>. The Ashram was dedicated to the ideal <strong>\u201cOm Sahodaryam Sarvatra,\u201d<\/strong> meaning all human beings are equal in the eyes of God.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Literary Contributions: <\/strong>Sree Narayana Guru was <strong>also a distinguished poet and philosopher.<\/strong> His important works include <strong><em>Anukamba Dasakam<\/em>, <em>Brahmavidya Panchakam<\/em>, <em>Asramam<\/em>, <em>Bhadrakaliashtakam<\/em>, <em>Atmopadesa Satakam<\/em>, <em>Advaitha Deepika<\/em>, and <em>Daiva Dasakam<\/em>.<\/strong> Through his writings, he communicated spiritual wisdom, ethical values, and social reform ideas in simple yet profound language.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News:\u00a0The Vice-President of India inaugurated the 93rd Sivagiri Pilgrimage at Sivagiri Mutt, describing it as a living philosophy of social awakening envisioned by Sree Narayana Guru.
