Road construction will not continue for the present.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><b>India\u2019s reason<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">India\u2019s actions in Doklam are easy to detect, viz. going to the help of a treaty partner in its time of need, a decision which incidentally has security ramifications for India.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><b>China\u2019s reason<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">China\u2019s reasons are more complex and complicated but, nevertheless, cannot be easily wished away.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><b>Current situation<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">China and India have a kind of competitive coexistence.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">While professing friendship, both sides have mutual suspicion for each other at times prompting several degrees of alienation.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Both countries remain wary of each other\u2019s intentions and actions.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><b>China shaping its policies<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">The BRICS summit and the 19th Party Congress both have high priority for China today.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">China is trying to reshape the regional and international order, and is keen to fine-tune its \u2018Great Power diplomacy\u2019.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">It, hence, needs to be seen as preferring peace over conflict.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">It is well-positioned to achieve this if it maintains its present course.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Any interruption, by indulging in a conflict with nations small or big, would not only damage but derail the levels of progress that are essential to achieve this objective.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Understanding the Chinese mind:\u00a0 Context Post the stand-off between India and China over the Doklam plateau,the two sides agreed to step back and disengage, thus avoiding a confrontation.
