O. Hume,<\/strong>\u00a0one of the\u00a0<strong>key founders of the Indian National Congress<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>Habitat and Distribution<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>Habitat:<\/strong>\u00a0It inhabits\u00a0<strong>open, dry, subtropical evergreen (mainly oak), coniferous (chiefly pine) or mixed conifer-broadleaf forests<\/strong>\u00a0on\u00a0<strong>steep, rocky hillsides<\/strong>\u00a0interrupted by\u00a0<strong>scrub and grassy clearings.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>Distribution:<\/strong>\u00a0It is\u00a0<strong>endemic<\/strong>\u00a0to\u00a0<strong>China, Myanmar, Thailand, Burma and India<\/strong>.\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\">In <strong>India<\/strong>, it is found in\u00a0<strong>Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>Characteristics<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\">The pheasant is up to\u00a0<strong>90 cm long<\/strong>\u00a0with a\u00a0<strong>greyish brown head, bare red facial skin, chestnut brown plumage, yellowish bill<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\">It has\u00a0<strong>metallic blue neck feathers<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\">The\u00a0<strong>male<\/strong>\u00a0has a\u00a0<strong>long greyish white, barred black and brown tail<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\">The\u00a0<strong>female<\/strong>\u00a0is a\u00a0<strong>chestnut brown bird<\/strong>\u00a0with\u00a0<strong>whitish throat, buff colour belly and white-tipped tail<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>Threats<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\">Habitat loss and fragmentation due to shifting cultivation<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\">Deforestation<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\">Hunted for food<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\">Trade of meat<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>IUCN Status: Vulnerable<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News:\u00a0Lurh Tlang Vavu Sanctuary in Farkawn village of Champhai district has become Mizoram\u2019s first community-led forest dedicated to the sole conservation of Mrs. Hume\u2019s pheasant, the state bird of Mizoram.
