{"id":35371,"date":"2018-10-31T17:05:19","date_gmt":"2018-10-31T11:35:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=35371"},"modified":"2018-10-31T17:05:19","modified_gmt":"2018-10-31T11:35:19","slug":"navy-to-get-advanced-choppers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/navy-to-get-advanced-choppers\/","title":{"rendered":"Navy to get advanced choppers:"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/todays-paper\/tp-national\/navy-to-get-advanced-choppers\/article19590727.ece\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Navy to get advanced choppers<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Context<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Indian Navy is looking to add to its fleet dedicated helicopters for \u2018Special Operations\u2019.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Of the 123 Naval Multi-Role Helicopters (NMRH) to be procured, 33 will be dedicated variants for Special Operations.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Why government is procuring these helicopters<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Helicopters would be used for training Marine Commandos (MARCOS) and the rest would be based on shore as well as on frontline warships.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00b7<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>How government will procure<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">? <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Navy had issued the Request for Information (RFI) to global Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) for the procurement of 123 NMRH and 111 Naval Utility Helicopters (NUH) last week.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The procurement would be under the recently approved Strategic Partnership (SP) model of the Defence Procurement Procedure (DPP).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The helicopters would have twin-engine and weigh at least 12.5 tonnes.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the RFI, the requirements include the ability to carry 12 fully equipped troops along with 400 Kg of equipment or eight fully equipped troops and one auto inflatable craft in a stowed configuration.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Other roles to perform<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The helicopters will also perform other roles like ferrying troops, maritime interdiction including anti-piracy operations, combat search and rescue operation, external cargo carriage, limited casualty evacuation (CASEVAC) and Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Navy to get advanced choppers: Context The Indian Navy is looking to add to its fleet dedicated helicopters for \u2018Special Operations\u2019.
