{"id":353893,"date":"2026-01-13T15:10:25","date_gmt":"2026-01-13T09:40:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/?p=353893"},"modified":"2026-01-13T15:10:25","modified_gmt":"2026-01-13T09:40:25","slug":"swami-vivekananda","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/swami-vivekananda\/","title":{"rendered":"Swami Vivekananda"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>News: <\/strong>The Vice President of India paid floral tributes to Swami Vivekananda on National Youth Day.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify\">About Swami Vivekananda<\/h2>\n<figure style=\"width: 375px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.culturalindia.net\/iliimages\/Swami-Vivekananda-ili-96-img-9.jpg?resize=375%2C234&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Swami Vivekananda\" width=\"375\" height=\"234\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: Cultural India<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\">Swami Vivekananda was a<strong> Hindu monk, spiritual leader, and reformer<\/strong> who played a major role in <strong>spreading Vedanta philosophy.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\">He was <strong>originally named Narendranath Datta<\/strong> and was<strong> born on January 12, 1863,<\/strong> in Kolkata.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\">From a young age, <strong>Narendranath had mystical experiences and became deeply curious about the existence of God.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\">In 1881, <strong><strong>he met<\/strong><\/strong> <strong>Ramakrishna Paramhamsa, who later became his spiritual guru.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Life as monk:<\/strong> Around 1890, Vivekananda<strong> travelled across India<\/strong> as a wandering monk <strong>under the names Vividishananda and Sachchidananda.<\/strong> During his travels,<strong> he met people from different social classes and studied the social and religious conditions of India.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>World\u2019s Parliament of Religions, Chicago (1893):<\/strong> Vivekananda represented Hinduism at the Wo<strong>rld\u2019s Parliament of Religions in Chicago in 1893.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\">His speeches were<strong> deeply inspiring<\/strong> and emphasized <strong>harmony, peace, and acceptance of all religions<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>He became <strong>famous as a captivating orator,<\/strong> and newspapers <strong>described him as \u201can orator by divine right.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>In his final address, he stated that the message of all religions should be <strong>\u201cHelp and not fight, assimilation and not destruction, harmony and peace and not dissension.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Founding of Organizations:<\/strong> After returning to India in 1897, he <strong>founded the Ramakrishna Mission<\/strong> to organize humanitarian and spiritual activities. He also <strong>established Ramakrishna Math at Belur, West Bengal,<\/strong> to train young monks and serve as a spiritual center.\n<ul>\n<li>He<strong> established Vedanta Societies in New York (1894)<\/strong> and <strong>San Francisco (1900),<\/strong> which spread Vedanta philosophy in the West.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Philosophy and Teaching:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>His philosophy is based on <strong data-start=\"228\" data-end=\"239\">Vedanta<\/strong>, which highlights the divinity of the soul, the oneness of all existence, and the importance of <strong data-start=\"336\" data-end=\"356\">self-realization<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>He believed in a <strong data-start=\"379\" data-end=\"401\">universal religion<\/strong>, teaching that all faiths are different paths leading to the same ultimate truth, promoting <strong data-start=\"494\" data-end=\"529\">tolerance and religious harmony.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>He emphasized <strong data-start=\"689\" data-end=\"712\">service to humanity<\/strong> with <strong>the principle \u201cJiva is Shiva,\u201d<\/strong> meaning helping others is equivalent to serving God<\/li>\n<li>He popularized <strong data-start=\"830\" data-end=\"844\">Karma Yoga<\/strong>,<strong> the path of selfless action,<\/strong> teaching that duties should be performed without attachment to results and dedicated to the divine.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Contribution:\u00a0<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>He was<strong> India\u2019s first cultural ambassador to the West,<\/strong> promoting Hinduism, Indian spirituality, and culture globally while countering negative stereotypes.<\/li>\n<li>He emphasized the harmony of <strong>science and religion<\/strong>, advocated selfless action, and stressed the wisdom of the <strong>Bhagavad Gita<\/strong> in guiding life and social service.<\/li>\n<li>Vivekananda championed <strong>social reforms<\/strong>, opposing untouchability, caste discrimination, and superstition, while <strong>promoting women\u2019s education, equality, and the upliftment of the poor.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>He inspired <strong>nationalism, universal brotherhood, and spiritual renaissance<\/strong>, awakening Indian pride and integrating material progress with spiritual growth.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\">His <strong>birthday is celebrated as National Youth Day<\/strong> in India<strong> since 1985.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\">He <strong>died on July 4, 1902,<\/strong> near Calcutta at the age of 39.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\">Th<strong>e Vivekananda Rock Memorial in Kanyakumari<\/strong> commemorates his meditation before leaving for Chicago in 1893.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: The Vice President of India paid floral tributes to Swami Vivekananda on National Youth Day.
