{"id":354845,"date":"2026-01-28T15:26:59","date_gmt":"2026-01-28T09:56:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/?p=354845"},"modified":"2026-01-28T15:26:59","modified_gmt":"2026-01-28T09:56:59","slug":"forever-chemicals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/forever-chemicals\/","title":{"rendered":"Forever Chemicals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>News: <\/strong>Studies from 2003 to 2021 show that older PFAS (i.e. forever chemicals) levels fell by 86%, but new replacement chemicals 9Cl-PF3ONS are now common in people\u2019s blood, raising concerns about unknown health risks.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify\">About Forever Chemicals<\/h2>\n<figure style=\"width: 391px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com\/media.mcsuk.org\/images\/SOP_Infographic_-_How_PFAS_enters_ecosystem.width-765.jpg?resize=391%2C275&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Forever chemicals\" width=\"391\" height=\"275\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: Marine conservation society<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Forever Chemicals<\/strong> refer to a<strong> large chemical family of thousands of highly persistent man-made chemicals<\/strong> known as <strong>per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, or PFAS. <\/strong><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Properties:<\/strong> PFAS molecules <strong>have a chain of linked carbon and fluorine atoms.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>carbon-fluorine bond is extremely strong,<\/strong> making these chemicals <strong>highly resistant to environmental degradation,<\/strong> which is why <strong>they are known as \u201cforever chemicals<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>They are<strong>\u00a0resistant<\/strong> to water, oil, heat, or staining.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Sources:<\/strong> PFAS are used in<strong> nonstick cookware, waterproof clothing, cosmetics, and also found in household dusts and contaminated water near industrial sites.\u00a0<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Other sources: They are used in\u00a0 Aerosol propellants, solvents, pesticides, surface treatments for textiles, leather, masonry, and paper,<\/strong> as well as <strong>in paints, plastics, lubricants and fire-fighting foams.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Exposure<\/strong>: People are mainly exposed to these chemicals through <strong>drinking or eating contaminated water and food<\/strong>, <strong>using products that contain PFAS<\/strong>, and <strong>inhaling air polluted with PFAS<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Health Threats: <\/strong>They have a<strong> wide range of health risks<\/strong> in both human and animal including <strong>cancer (kidney and testicular), hormone disruption, liver and thyroid problems, immune system suppression, reproductive harm, and abnormal fetal development.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>They are also<strong> negatively impacting marine life<\/strong> around the globe.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Regulation:<\/strong> PFAS are regulated under the<strong> Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants. <\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\">Three main PFAS groups currently listed are:\u00a0 <strong>PFOS and related substances, PFOA and related substances and PFHxS and related substances.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: Studies from 2003 to 2021 show that older PFAS (i.e. forever chemicals) levels fell by 86%, but new replacement chemicals 9Cl-PF3ONS are now common in people\u2019s blood, raising concerns about unknown health risks.
