{"id":354909,"date":"2026-01-29T16:36:56","date_gmt":"2026-01-29T11:06:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/?p=354909"},"modified":"2026-01-29T16:36:56","modified_gmt":"2026-01-29T11:06:56","slug":"tomtom-traffic-index-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/tomtom-traffic-index-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"TomTom Traffic Index 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>News: <\/strong>As per TomTom Traffic Index 2025, Bengaluru was the second most congested city in the world in 2025.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify\">About TomTom Traffic Index 2025<\/h2>\n<figure style=\"width: 285px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/a.storyblok.com\/f\/178460\/840x1444\/6e8789c670\/traffic-index-countries-top-10.png?resize=285%2C490&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\" TomTom Traffic Index 2025\" width=\"285\" height=\"490\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: tomtom<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify\">\n<li>TomTom Traffic Index is\u00a0an <strong>annual analysis of global traffic trends and commuting behavior<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Released by:<\/strong> TomTom, an Amsterdam- based company that offers traffic solutions<\/li>\n<li><strong>Benchmark:<\/strong> The Index <strong>measures congestion levels, average speeds and travel times per mile<\/strong> across the global road network.<\/li>\n<li>The TomTom Traffic Index is compiled using anonymised GPS data and real driving speeds from across the world.<\/li>\n<li><strong>2025 edition:<\/strong> TomTom Traffic Index 2025 is the <strong>15th edition of the index.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Findings related to India:<\/strong>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify\">\n<li><strong>India ranked as the fifth most traffic-congested country globally<\/strong> and <strong>second in Asia,<\/strong> with commuters experiencing<strong> an average congestion level of 37.4 per cent.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Bengaluru emerged as India\u2019s most traffic-congested city,<\/strong> recording an average congestion level of 74.4 per cent, thereby ranking second globally.\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify\">\n<li>During peak hours, commuters in Bengaluru took <strong data-start=\"399\" data-end=\"438\">15 minutes to travel 4.2 kilometres<\/strong> and \u00a0commuters <strong>lost 168 hours per year<\/strong> due to heavy traffic.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"489\" data-end=\"596\">Kolkata ranked <strong data-start=\"1419\" data-end=\"1462\">fourth among the world\u2019s slowest cities<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"489\" data-end=\"596\">Pune became the <strong data-start=\"1565\" data-end=\"1603\">fifth most congested city globally<\/strong>, overtaking Mumbai.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"489\" data-end=\"596\"><strong>Mumbai showed slight improvement,<\/strong> with time lost to congestion reducing to <strong data-start=\"1759\" data-end=\"1781\">126 hours per year<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"489\" data-end=\"596\"><strong>New Delhi ranked 23rd <\/strong>in the <strong>global congestion index.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-start=\"489\" data-end=\"596\"><strong>Other Indian cities featured in the rankings:<\/strong> Jaipur, Chennai, Hyderabad, Ernakulam, and Ahmedabad.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Findings related to Global Congestion:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>For the first time, TomTom calculated global congestion using driving data from over <strong data-start=\"303\" data-end=\"343\">2.2 trillion miles (3.6 trillion km)<\/strong> worldwide.<\/li>\n<li>The index showed that <strong data-start=\"384\" data-end=\"431\">global congestion increased from 20% to 25%<\/strong>, marking a rise of <strong data-start=\"451\" data-end=\"474\">5 percentage points<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Of the top 10 cities with the highest congestion in Asia, <strong>six were from India:<\/strong> <strong>Bengaluru (1), Pune (2), Mumbai (6), New Delhi (7), Kolkata (9), and Jaipur (10). Chennai ranked 11<sup>th<\/sup>, while Hyderabad was placed 15<sup>th<\/sup><\/strong>\u00a0in the Asia ranking.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"477\" data-end=\"551\"><strong>Least Congested:<\/strong> U.S.A ranked 54th globally in congestion, making it one of the least congested countries.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"477\" data-end=\"551\"><strong data-start=\"1038\" data-end=\"1063\">Most Congested: Colombia ranked first<\/strong> with nearly <strong data-start=\"1076\" data-end=\"1094\">50% congestion<\/strong>, making it the most congested country.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: As per TomTom Traffic Index 2025, Bengaluru was the second most congested city in the world in 2025.
