Research Gate<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li>It is the <strong>first Conservation Reserve of Gujarat.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><b>Location: <\/b>This protected<b> wetland conservation reserve<\/b>\u00a0is located on the <strong>edge of the arid Banni grasslands and the marshy salt flats of the Rann of Kutch.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Area:<\/strong> It covers an area of <strong>80 sq. km.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>In the<strong> local Kutchi language,<\/strong> <strong>Chhari<\/strong> means <strong>&#8220;salty&#8221;<\/strong> and <strong>Dhand<\/strong> means <strong>&#8220;shallow wetlands&#8221;.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\">The <strong>seasonal desert wetland gets swampy during the monsoon season<\/strong> and <strong>is fed by north-flowing rivers and surrounding hills.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Fauna: <\/strong>It\u00a0serves as a <strong>primary stopover for birds entering the Indian subcontinent via the western route.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It is home to endangered species such as <strong>Dalmatian Pelican, Oriental Darter, Black-necked Stork, and Indian Skimmer and other bird species such as <\/strong><strong>flamingos, Common cranes, Painted storks, Raptors, and Spoonbills.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\">C<strong>hinkara, wolves, caracal, desert cats, and desert foxes are also found here.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><strong>Note &#8211;<\/strong> <\/span>The designation of these two sites under the Ramsar Convention takes the <strong>total number of such wetlands in India to 98.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: Recently, Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change announced the addition of two new wetlands to India\u2019s Ramsar network.
