Matter of Dignity:<\/strong> Managing menstruation safely, comfortably, and without shame is a basic necessity for half the global population. The inability to do so infringes on fundamental rights to\u00a0<strong>health, education, work, non-discrimination, and human dignity<\/strong>. Recognizing menstrual health is a step toward gender equity.<\/li>\n<li><strong>School Attendance &amp; Performance:<\/strong> Lack of products, pain management, and poor sanitation facilities are leading causes of school absenteeism for girls. This disrupts education, lowers academic performance, and increases dropout rates, limiting future economic and social opportunities.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Essential for Economic Participation &amp; Productivity:<\/strong> <span class=\"citation-46 citation-end-46\">Menstrual health is a major driver of economic participation. Lack of menstrual health support leads to\u00a0&#8220;presenteeism&#8221; (working while unwell) or absenteeism, reducing productivity and career advancement. Supportive policies (like sick leave for severe pain) and workplace facilities are key to an inclusive economy.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong>Foundation for Reproductive Autonomy:<\/strong> Understanding one&#8217;s cycle is foundational for reproductive health literacy. Issue:<\/strong> The judgment clarified that menstruation is not just a \u201cwomen\u2019s issue\u201d but a\u00a0<strong>human rights issue<\/strong>\u00a0affecting\u00a0<strong>all genders<\/strong>, including\u00a0<strong>transgender persons<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>non-binary individuals<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Binding Directions for All Schools:<\/strong> <span class=\"citation-122\">The Court issued several mandatory directives for all schools (both <\/span><b data-path-to-node=\"8\" data-index-in-node=\"68\"><span class=\"citation-122\">government and private<\/span><\/b><span class=\"citation-122\">) across India, with a <\/span><b data-path-to-node=\"8\" data-index-in-node=\"113\"><span class=\"citation-122\">three-month deadline<\/span><\/b><span class=\"citation-122 citation-end-122\"> for compliance such as:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li>Providing <b data-path-to-node=\"9,1,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"8\">free oxo-biodegradable sanitary napkins <\/b>to all girl students in Classes 6\u201312.<\/li>\n<li>Ensure functional, <b data-path-to-node=\"9,2,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"19\">gender-segregated toilets<\/b> with usable water connectivity.<\/li>\n<li>Establish <strong>&#8220;Menstrual Hygiene Management Corners&#8221;<\/strong> equipped with, spare innerwear, spare uniforms etc for menstruation related emergencies.<\/li>\n<li>Installing safe disposable facilities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a id=\"h5\"><\/a>What have been the various initiatives to improve the Menstrual Health?<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li><b data-path-to-node=\"4,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\"><span class=\"citation-160\">PMBJP (Suvidha Pads):<\/span><\/b><span class=\"citation-160\"> Perhaps the most visible success, the <\/span><i data-path-to-node=\"4,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"60\"><span class=\"citation-160\">Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana<\/span><\/i><span class=\"citation-160\"> provides <\/span><b data-path-to-node=\"4,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"116\"><span class=\"citation-160\">&#8220;Suvidha&#8221; pads <\/span><\/b><span class=\"citation-160\">(<\/span><span class=\"citation-160\">which are oxo-biodegradable )for just <\/span><b data-path-to-node=\"4,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"168\"><span class=\"citation-160\">\u20b91 per pad<\/span><\/b><span class=\"citation-160 citation-end-160\"> at over 16,000 Jan Aushadhi Kendras.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b data-path-to-node=\"4,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\"><span class=\"citation-159\">National Menstrual Hygiene Scheme (MHS):<\/span><\/b><span class=\"citation-159 citation-end-159\"> Run by the Ministry of Health, this targets adolescent girls (10\u201319 years).<\/span> It uses ASHA workers to distribute subsidized pads in rural areas and hold community meetings to break taboos.<\/li>\n<li><strong>State govt initiatives:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Kerala &#8211; campaign transforms old clothes into hygienic cloth pads, treating menstruation as a tool for rural development.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b data-path-to-node=\"12,2,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\"><span class=\"citation-154\">Pinkishe Foundation:<\/span><\/b><span class=\"citation-154 citation-end-154\"> Runs &#8220;Pad Banks&#8221;
