{"id":35506,"date":"2018-10-31T17:54:32","date_gmt":"2018-10-31T12:24:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=35506"},"modified":"2018-10-31T17:54:32","modified_gmt":"2018-10-31T12:24:32","slug":"india-to-raise-visa-issue-in-trade-policy-meet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/india-to-raise-visa-issue-in-trade-policy-meet\/","title":{"rendered":"India to raise visa issue in trade policy meet"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/todays-paper\/tp-business\/india-to-raise-visa-issue-in-trade-policy-meet\/article19531208.ece\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India to raise visa issue in trade policy meet <\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Context<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Centre will be raising Indian industry\u2019s concerns over the U.S. visa \u2018curbs\u2019 and the \u2018delay\u2019 in inking a bilateral social security pact (or totalization agreement) during the India-U.S. Trade Policy Forum (TPF) meeting likely in October.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Expectations from the TPF meeting<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the TPF meeting, the U.S. is expected to table its worries over India\u2019s \u2018restrictions\u2019 on e-commerce as well as the \u2018challenges\u2019 faced by American innovative industries due to India\u2019s \u2018weak\u2019 Intellectual Property Rights administration.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">New Delhi will be putting forth the \u2018non-tariff barriers\u2019 by the U.S. that are hurting Indian agriculture, pharmaceuticals and other industrial exports.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Washington is expected to raise its concerns over India\u2019s \u2018excessively high tariffs\u2019 on imports of many manufactured products as well as the $24.3 billion goods trade deficit that the U.S. had with India in 2016.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Official delegation to New Delhi<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ahead of the TPF meeting, Assistant U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) for South and Central Asia, Mark Linscott, will lead a U.S. official delegation to New Delhi in September for discussions on the TPF agenda.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He\u2019ll also be framing the contours of the projected \u2018comprehensive review\u2019 of bilateral trade relations.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Prior to that, Mr. Linscott, Tanya Menchi, Deputy Assistant USTR for South and Central Asia, and Brendan Lynch, Director for India at the USTR Office, will participate in a round-table discussion on August 2.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The discussion is being organized by the advocacy body U.S.-India Business Council to gather inputs for the TPF meeting and the ample review of bilateral trade ties.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Such discussions means that the \u2018commercial\u2019 track will be taken out of the India-US \u2018Strategic and Commercial Dialogue\u2019 (S&amp;CD), and from now on take place independently.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>India to raise visa issue in trade policy meet Context The Centre will be raising Indian industry\u2019s concerns over the U.S. visa \u2018curbs\u2019 and the \u2018delay\u2019 in inking a bilateral social security pact (or totalization agreement) during the India-U.S. Trade Policy Forum (TPF) meeting likely in October.
