The inscription language is <strong data-start=\"2697\" data-end=\"2725\">Brahmi script &amp; Sanskrit.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1102\" data-end=\"1201\">\n<p data-start=\"1104\" data-end=\"1201\">The site was first scientifically explored in <strong data-start=\"1150\" data-end=\"1158\">1957<\/strong> by archaeologist <strong data-start=\"1176\" data-end=\"1200\">Prof. S. N. Chowdhry<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1202\" data-end=\"1346\">\n<p data-start=\"1204\" data-end=\"1346\">Archaeological findings indicate the <strong data-start=\"1241\" data-end=\"1296\">spread and flourishing of Buddhism in western India<\/strong> during the <strong data-start=\"1308\" data-end=\"1345\">early centuries of the Common Era<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1347\" data-end=\"1432\">\n<p data-start=\"1349\" data-end=\"1432\">The relics symbolise <strong data-start=\"1370\" data-end=\"1431\">Lord Buddha\u2019s teachings of peace, compassion, and harmony<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 data-start=\"1349\" data-end=\"1432\">Major Archaeological Findings at Devnimori<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li data-start=\"1486\" data-end=\"1502\"><strong>Relic Casket<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li data-start=\"1505\" data-end=\"1594\">Discovered inside the <strong data-start=\"1527\" data-end=\"1546\">Devnimori Stupa<\/strong> at a height of about <strong data-start=\"1568\" data-end=\"1593\">24 feet from the base<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1597\" data-end=\"1628\">Made of <strong data-start=\"1605\" data-end=\"1627\">green schist stone<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1631\" data-end=\"1770\">Bears inscriptions in <strong data-start=\"1653\" data-end=\"1683\">Brahmi script and Sanskrit<\/strong> reading <strong data-start=\"1692\" data-end=\"1722\">\u201cDashabala Sharira Nilaya\u201d<\/strong>, meaning <em data-start=\"1732\" data-end=\"1769\">abode of the Buddha\u2019s bodily relics<\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1772\" data-end=\"1792\"><strong>Copper Container<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li data-start=\"1795\" data-end=\"1869\">A <strong data-start=\"1797\" data-end=\"1811\">copper box<\/strong> with a flat base and slip-on lid fitted onto a rim ledge.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1872\" data-end=\"1985\">Contained <strong data-start=\"1882\" data-end=\"1918\">organic material with holy ashes<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"1920\" data-end=\"1944\">silk cloth fragments<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"1946\" data-end=\"1955\">beads<\/strong>, and <strong data-start=\"1961\" data-end=\"1984\">black clay covering<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1987\" data-end=\"2010\"><strong>Amphora-like Bottle<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li data-start=\"2013\" data-end=\"2062\">A <strong data-start=\"2015\" data-end=\"2061\">gold-coated silver-copper miniature bottle<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2065\" data-end=\"2166\">Features a cylindrical body, narrow neck, and <strong data-start=\"2111\" data-end=\"2129\">screw-type lid<\/strong>, resembling ancient amphora vessels.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Preservation: <\/strong>The relics are preserved in a <strong data-start=\"2217\" data-end=\"2274\">desiccator sealed within an air-tight glass enclosure<\/strong> to prevent moisture damage and deterioration.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: India organised the first-ever public exposition of the Devnimori Relics of Lord Buddha outside India at the Gangaramaya Temple, Colombo (Sri Lanka).
