Roy<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> proposed a system including right to elect and recall.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Constituent Assembly discussed it, but <\/span><b>Dr. B.R. Ambedkar <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">rejected it due to fear of instability.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In <\/span><b>1974, Jayaprakash Narayan<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> supported it during the Total Revolution movement.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Other Tools for Direct Democracy<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Referendum:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> A procedure where a proposed law or significant issue (like a constitutional amendment) is referred to the electorate for a direct &#8220;Yes&#8221; or &#8220;No&#8221; vote. In India, historical referendums occurred in <\/span><b>Sikkim<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (1975) to join the Indian Union.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Initiative:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> A process allowing citizens to propose a new law or constitutional amendment by gathering a specific number of signatures on a petition. Countries like <\/span><b>Switzerland<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> frequently use this tool.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Plebiscite:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Typically used to obtain the opinion of the people on an issue of public importance, such as territorial disputes or independence.
