{"id":35727,"date":"2018-11-01T11:32:52","date_gmt":"2018-11-01T06:02:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=35727"},"modified":"2018-11-01T11:32:52","modified_gmt":"2018-11-01T06:02:52","slug":"no-takers-for-evm-challenge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/no-takers-for-evm-challenge\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018No takers for EVM Challenge\u2019:"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/todays-paper\/tp-national\/no-takers-for-evm-challenge\/article19460642.ece\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2018No takers for EVM Challenge\u2019<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Context<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Election Commission told the Supreme Court on Wednesday that its \u2018EVM Challenge\u2019 had hardly any taker among the political parties.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Can Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) get tempered?<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Bench is considering the question whether Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) can be tampered with.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The bench is looking into the amalgamation of the Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) into EVMs.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Commission told the court that after the furore created by certain parties that had said EVMs were susceptible to tampering, the \u2018EVM Challenge\u2019, organised on June 3, turned out to be unimpressive as none of the major parties, except the NCP and the CPI(M), chose to turn up.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Even the NCP and the CPI(M) had made it clear, towards the date of the challenge, that they did not want to challenge the EVM but came to \u201cunderstand the process\u201d.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thus, no political party or person was able to demonstrate how the EVMs could be tampered with during the course of the challenge.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Subsequently, the Election Commission issued a press note wherein it reiterated its commitment to holding all future elections with VVPATs,\u201d it said.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The EC said it was \u201ccommitted to implementing VVPATs nationwide by 2019.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u2018No takers for EVM Challenge\u2019: Context The Election Commission told the Supreme Court on Wednesday that its \u2018EVM Challenge\u2019 had hardly any taker among the political parties.
