{"id":35731,"date":"2018-11-01T11:34:28","date_gmt":"2018-11-01T06:04:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=35731"},"modified":"2018-11-01T11:34:28","modified_gmt":"2018-11-01T06:04:28","slug":"the-march-from-yesterday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/the-march-from-yesterday\/","title":{"rendered":"The march from yesterday:"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/todays-paper\/tp-opinion\/the-march-from-yesterday\/article19460599.ece\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The march from yesterday<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Context:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A global movement called March for Science was held in different places in the world in April this year and the Indian version was held in some cities on 9<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> August, 2017.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Reason for the march:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The call for this march in Indian cities had many problematic assertions.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The march was justified by pointing out that science in India is facing the danger of being eclipsed by a rising wave of unscientific beliefs and religious bigotry\u201d along with reduction of funding to premier scientific institutions.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Scientists added that non-scientific ideas are being promoted and suggested that \u201cpromoting scientific bent of mind can certainly help improve the social health of our country where incidents of witch hunting, honour killing and mob lynching are reported regularly.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Suggestions by the Scientists:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The march organisers made four suggestions:<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To allocate a certain percentage of the GDP for science and education,<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To stop propagation of unscientific, obscurantist ideas and religious intolerance,<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Insisted that education should only impart \u201cideas that are supported by scientific evidence, and finally,<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To enact policies based on evidence-based science.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The march from yesterday: Context: A global movement called March for Science was held in different places in the world in April this year and the Indian version was held in some cities on 9th August, 2017.
