Cultivation<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">It is usually referred to as<strong> Areca palm, yellow palm, butterfly palm<\/strong> etc. The arecanut palm <strong>is the source of a common chewing nut, popularly known as betel nut or Supari.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Grading: <\/strong>Arecanut kernels are<strong> boiled, and then areca precipitates<\/strong> are added after removing the husk.\n<ul>\n<li>Afterwards, the <strong>nuts are dried and sorted<\/strong> into different grades like <strong>Nuli, Hasa, Rashi, Bette, and Gorabalu <\/strong>based on their market worth.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Favourable conditions<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Location:<\/strong>\u00a0It is mostly<strong> confined to 28\u00ba north and south of the equator<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Temperature:<\/strong> It grows well <strong>within the temperature range of 14\u00baC and 36\u00baC .<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">It is <strong>adversely affected<\/strong> by temperatures <strong>below 10\u00baC and above 40\u00baC.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Soil:<\/strong>\u00a0It can be<strong> grown upto 1000 m altitude in deep<\/strong> and <strong>well- drained soils<\/strong> without high water table.\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Laterite, red loam and alluvial soils<\/strong> are most suited.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Ideal rainfall:<\/strong>\u00a0750 mm to 4500 mm\/ Irrigation<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Season:<\/strong> <strong>June \u2013 justify;\">\n<li><strong>India <\/strong>is the<strong> world\u2019s largest producer <\/strong>of areca nuts.<\/li>\n<li>It accounts for about <strong>63% of total global production<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Total Production in India:<\/strong> In <strong>2023\u201324<\/strong>, India produced <strong>approximately 14 lakh tonnes of areca nuts<\/strong> from 9.49 lakh hectares.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Largest Producing state: Karnataka<\/strong> ranks first, with a production of <strong>10 lakh tonnes from 6.76 lakh hectares,<\/strong> followed by<strong> Kerala, Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and others.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li class=\"dF3vjf\" data-sfc-root=\"c\" data-sfc-cb=\"\" data-hveid=\"CAMQCA\" data-processed=\"true\"><span class=\"T286Pc\" data-sfc-cp=\"\" data-sfc-root=\"c\" data-sfc-cb=\"\" data-processed=\"true\"><strong class=\"Yjhzub\" data-sfc-root=\"c\" data-sfc-cb=\"\" data-processed=\"true\">Varieties grown:<\/strong> Key varieties include<strong> Mangala, Sumangala, Sreemangala, Mohitnagar, Thirthahalli, Mettupalayam and Sreevardhan.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong>Major export destinations:<\/strong> It include the <strong>United Arab Emirates, Vietnam, Nepal, Malaysia, and the Maldives.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>In 2023\u201324, India <strong>exported 10,637 tonnes of areca
