ResearchGate<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Origin: <\/b>It is a <strong>perennial river <\/strong>which originates from <b>Janapav hills<\/b>, situated south of <b>Mhow <\/b>town near<b> Indore<\/b>, along the southern slopes of the <b>Vindhya Mountain Range<\/b> in <b>Madhya Pradesh<\/b>.<\/li>\n<li><b>Course of river:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> From its source, it flows in a <\/span><b>north-northeasterly direction through Madhya Pradesh<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, then passes through <\/span><b>Rajasthan<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for a short stretch.\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It subsequently forms part of the <\/span><b>boundary between Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> before turning <\/span><b>southeastward<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and eventually joining the <\/span><b>Yamuna River in Uttar Pradesh<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It <strong>ends at a confluence of five rivers,<\/strong> including the <strong>Chambal, Kwari, Yamuna, Sind, and Pahuj<\/strong>,<\/span> at the<b> Pachnada confluence near Bhareh in Uttar Pradesh<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is bounded by the <\/span><b>Vindhyan range (West-East-South) and the Aravalli range (NW).<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Total Length:<\/strong> Its total length is <strong>1024 km.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><b>States covered: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">flows through<\/span><b>\u00a0Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Tributaries: <\/b>Its main tributaries include the <b>Banas, Mej (left bank) and Parbati, Kali Sindh, and Shipra (right bank) rivers.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Drainage: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <strong>Chambal and its tributaries<\/strong> drain the <strong>Malwa region of northwestern Madhya Pradesh<\/strong>.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Its largest tributary <strong>Banas River,<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>drains southeastern Rajasthan.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Drains into:<\/strong> It is a <strong>right bank <\/strong>tributary of<strong> Yamuna River <\/strong>meeting it in\u00a0<strong>Jalaun district of Uttar Pradesh<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><b>Dams situated: Gandhi Sagar Dam, Jawahar Sagar Dam, Ranapratap Sagar Dam, Kota Barrage, Kotwal Dam, Pagara Dam and Pillowa Dam<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are the dams situated on it.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong>Protected area:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/national-chambal-sanctuary\/\"><strong>Chambal National Sanctuary<\/strong><\/a> extends along a <strong>425 km stretch of the Chambal River<\/strong> which is <strong>India\u2019s first and only tri-state protected riverine sanctuary.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: The Supreme Court of India stayed a Rajasthan notification altering the boundaries of the National Chambal Gharial Sanctuary that freed 732 hectares along the Chambal River.
