{"id":36007,"date":"2018-11-01T13:04:43","date_gmt":"2018-11-01T07:34:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=36007"},"modified":"2018-11-01T13:04:43","modified_gmt":"2018-11-01T07:34:43","slug":"cag-flags-delay-in-work-on-corvettes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/cag-flags-delay-in-work-on-corvettes\/","title":{"rendered":"CAG flags delay in work on corvettes:"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/todays-paper\/tp-national\/cag-flags-delay-in-work-on-corvettes\/article19338967.ece\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CAG flags delay in work on corvettes<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">CAG condemns delay in construction of anti-submarine warfare corvettes<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><b>Context<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">The Comptroller and Auditor-General (CAG) has condemned the Navy and Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd. for delay in construction of anti-submarine warfare corvettes and hampering their capabilities because of delayed decisions.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><b>The report<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">The report claims that the approved designs got amended 24 times till as late as last year.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Against the 18 weapons and sensors to be installed on ASW corvettes, audit observed that the two ASW corvettes delivered were not fitted with \u2018X\u2019 weapon and sensor systems.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Thus, ASW corvettes will not be able to put to its full potential as envisaged.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><b>Reason behind the delay<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">The report noted that while the Letter of Intent (LoI) was issued in March 2003, only a sketchy specification of the ship was made available to Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Limited (GRSE).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">The finalization of system design as well as specification of equipment, weapon and sensor fit were to be undertaken by the Directorate of Naval Design.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Due to the major design modifications, the cost went up from the original sanction of Rs.<\/span>3,051.27 crore to Rs. 7,852.39 crores.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">The auditor also noted that harbor acceptance trials (HATs) were still pending as of December 2016 in respect of the second ASW Corvette for over a year.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>CAG flags delay in work on corvettes: CAG condemns delay in construction of anti-submarine warfare corvettes Context The Comptroller and Auditor-General (CAG) has condemned the Navy and Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd. for delay in construction of anti-submarine warfare corvettes and hampering their capabilities because of delayed decisions.
